Radiation therapy (RT) after breast conservation therapy has recently been linked with significant reduction in risk of ipsilateral breast cancer among BRCA1 mutation carriers. However, the exact mechanism by which RT reduces incidence of BRCA1-associated cancer remains unclear. Here we studied fresh breast tissue from a BRCA1 mutation carrier who was initially treated with a lumpectomy and RT ...

Post-burn or post-inflammatory scarring of the breast may have significant effects on the shape and volume of the breast as well as on the nipple-areola complex (NAC). Significant asymmetry of the breasts and distortion of the NAC may result, with marked consequent psychological and physiological sequelae for the patients. This report presents three cases of scar-induced breast deformities and ...

To examine the effects of dietary fat intake on breast cancer risk, we are conducting a randomized trial of dietary intervention in women with extensive areas of radiologically dense breast tissue on mammography, a risk factor for breast cancer. Early results show that after 2 years on a low-fat, high-carbohydrate diet there is a significant reduction in area of density, particularly in women g...

CONCLUSIONS: Normative values provide an important reference point for interpreting BREAST-Q data. Normative values will improve the quantification of the health burden of surgical breast conditions. Normative values will additionally provide clinical context for interpreting the changes in satisfaction and well-being associated with breast reduction, augmentation, and breast cancer resection a...

Lower-pole shaping of the breast is sometimes a difficult challenge when performing vertical mammoplasty. The problems mostly encountered are too large breast bases, persistent dog ears, which require long incision, and poor breast projection. We report a modification of the technique that we use in breast reduction so as to better shape the lower pole and to reduce revision surgery.
