An ultra-low voltage customized DC-DC booster circuit was developed using a LTC3108 converter, and used continuously on a flat-plate microbial fuel cell (FPM) system. The boost converter successfully stepped up the microbial fuel cell (MFC) voltage from ~0.5 V to 3.3 and 5.0 V of outputs. The designed circuit and system displayed the dynamic variations of the source FPM as well as the output vo...

A major consideration in the design of the accelerator structures in the injector linacs of the JLC/NLC[1] is to keep the wakefield effects within tolerances for both the nominal (2.8 ns) and alternate (1.4 ns) bunch spacings. One important multi-bunch wakefield effect is beam break-up (BBU), where a jitter in injection conditions of a bunch train is amplified in the linac; another is static em...

Immunogenicity and safety of a booster dose of an MF59-adjuvanted H5N1 vaccine containing 7.5 μg A/turkey/Turkey/1/2005-like (clade 2.2) H5N1 hemagglutinin, given approximately 18 months after primary vaccination with a heterologous strain, were evaluated. The booster vaccine was well tolerated and induced a robust, cross-reactive immune response.

Abstract Vaccination is one mechanism used as a preventative measure to decrease morbidity and mortality due bovine respiratory disease (BRD), but vaccination efficacy inconsistent. Therefore, the objective of this study was compare effect inactivated (INA) vs. modified live (MLV) viral vaccines on immune phenotype weaned beef calves. Mixed-sexed pens with equal numbers heifers steers were rand...

Introduction Pertussis is re-emerging worldwide, despite effective immunization programs for infants and children. Epidemiological studies show a more limited duration of protection against clinical pertussis in adolescents primed with acellular pertussis (aP) vaccines during infancy than those who have been primed with whole-cell pertussis (wP) vaccines. This study aimed to determine whether m...

This study was designed to assess atrial booster pump action in valvular heart disease and to dissect booster pump from reservoir-conduit functions. In five patients with aortic stenosis and six with mitral stenosis, sequential atrioventricular (A-V) pacing was instituted during the course of diagnostic cardiac catheterization. Continuous recording of valvular gradient allowed estimation of flo...

The changes in lgG antibody levels to hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) and in antibody to HBsAg (anti-HBs) seroconversion rates due to different dosages of hepatitis B vaccine (HepB) were compared in 2106 children. Children who had been previously vaccinated as infants with HepB were revaccinated at 5-15 y of age, after which the antibody titers were determined. After the first booster dose,...

In a previous study, 3-dose primary vaccination of Nigerian infants with the 10-valent pneumococcal nontypeable Haemophilus influenzae protein D conjugate vaccine (PHiD-CV) was immunogenic for vaccine pneumococcal serotypes, with comparable tolerability between PHiD-CV and control groups. In an open-label study (ClinicalTrials.gov, NCT01153893), 68 primed children received a PHiD-CV booster dos...

BACKGROUND The introduction of universal pertussis immunization and the high coverage achieved in most developed countries have largely changed the epidemiology of the disease. Although vaccination rates are high in the first year of life, the rates of booster doses are unsatisfactory and lead to the onset of outbreaks. This report describes an outbreak of pertussis affecting school students al...

BACKGROUND Protection against Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib), a rapidly invading encapsulated bacteria, is dependent on maintenance of an adequate level of serum antibody through early childhood. In many countries, Hib vaccine booster doses have been implemented after infant immunization to sustain immunity. We investigated the long-term persistence of antibody and immunological memory in ...
