A fundamental problem in large scale, decentralized distributed systems is the efficient discovery of information. This paper presents Squid, a peer-to-peer information discovery system that supports flexible searches and provides search guarantees. The fundamental concept underlying the approach is the definition of multi-dimensional information spaces and the maintenance of locality in these ...

In this paper the use of a HTS SQUID magnetometer for quantitative measurements in eddy current NDE is presented. The SQUID is used in absolute rather than in gradiometric mode and the magnetic field measurements are directly compared to theoretical results. The measurements are taken in an ambient noise environment and the excitation has the form of a double-rectangle Printed Circuit Board coi...

Magnetite nanoparticles (Chemicell SiMAG-TCL) were characterized by SQUID-relaxometry, susceptometry, and TEM. The magnetization detected by SQUID-relaxometry was 0.33% of that detected by susceptometry, indicating that the sensitivity of SQUID-relaxometry could be significantly increased through improved control of nanoparticle size. The relaxometry data were analyzed by the moment superpositi...

A dorsal light reflex is described in the squid Lolliguncula brevis. When illuminated from the side in visually homogeneous surroundings, a free-swimming squid rolls the dorsal side of its head and trunk 10-20 degrees towards the light. With the trunk restricted in a holder, the squid rolls its head 4-5 degrees towards the light; this reaction increases by about 50% when the statocysts are bila...

The red pigment in the eyes of the squid, blue crab, and horseshoe crab becomes photosensitive when treated with formalin, and bleaches in the light. The resulting change in density is approximately symmetrical around a maximum at 480 mmicro in the blue green. This difference absorption spectrum is in rough agreement with the spectral sensitivity of the cephalopod eye and differs only slightly ...

We study a superconducting stripline resonator SSR made of niobium, which is integrated with a superconducting interference device SQUID . The large nonlinear inductance of the SQUID gives rise to a strong Kerr nonlinearity in the response of the SSR, which in turn results in strong coupling between different modes of the SSR. We experimentally demonstrate that such intermode coupling gives ris...

We use a scanning superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) to image the magnetic flux produced by designed for computing. The nanometer-scale SQUID-on-tip probe reveals flow of current through circuit as well locations trapped flux. In particular, maps flowing out flux-control line in vicinity qubit show how these elements are coupled, providing insight on optimize control.
