The results of an extensive search for short and moderatelength polynomial convolutional encoders for time-invariant tail-biting representations of block codes at rates R = 1=4; 1=3; 1=2; and 2=3 are reported. The tail-biting representations found are typically as good as the best known block codes.

Trials of metofluthrin-impregnated multilayer paper strips against mosquitoes in shelters with no walls were carried out at 3 sites in Lombok, Indonesia. Major reductions in human biting by Culex quinquefasciatus, Anopheles balabacensis, and An. sundaicus were achieved. The device is a very practical measure of preventing outdoor mosquito biting, with no need for electricity or heating to evapo...

Squirrel monkeys pressed a lever to produce food on several fixed-ratio schedules; they could also bite a rubber hose. Biting attack occurred during the postreinforcement pause and in early portions of the ratio response run. Also, biting attacks increased after transitions to higher values of the fixed-ratio requirement and in extinction. The results show that extinction-induced aggression eff...

Trellis Representations for Linear Block Codes Heide Gluesing-Luerssen University of Kentucky Department of Mathematics 715 Patterson Office Tower Lexington, KY 40506 USA During the last decade conventional and tail-biting trellis representations of linear block codes have gained a great deal of attention. A tail-biting trellis for a block code of length n is an edge-labeled layered graph on th...

This study surveys animals that use soft tissues rather than rigid links to build jaw joints. Hard biting elements are useful; they are used in piercing or shearing during feeding and interactive behaviors and can directly impact survival and reproduction. The best understood biting systems include biting elements that are mounted on rigid jaw links that form a joint capable of transmitting the...

In Belgian Malinois dogs, a 38-base pair variable number tandem repeat in the dopamine transporter gene (SLC6A3) is associated with behavior changes in Malinois. By additional sequencing in SLC6A3, we identified an intronic 12-nucleotide poly(A) insertion ("PolyA(22)") before the terminal exon that was associated with seizure, "glazing over" behaviors, and episodic biting behaviors in a sample ...
