Point clouds as measurements of 3D sensors have many applications in various fields such as object modeling, environment mapping and surface representation. Storage and processing of raw point clouds is time consuming and computationally expensive. In addition, their high dimensionality shall be considered, which results in the well known curse of dimensionality. Conventional methods either app...

In order to eliminate the weakness of large volumes data in 3D modeling process, a fast and efficient sampling method based on curvature analysis of cubic Bézier curve is presented. With the method, the characteristic points and curvature maximum value of cubic Bézier curve are used as the reference standard of the sampling interval and density. For cubic B-spline curves, the sampling data can ...

We propose a flexible and efficient wavelet construction for non-uniform B-spline curves and surfaces. The method allows to remove knots in arbitrary order minimizing the displacement of control points when a knot is re-inserted. Geometric detail subtracted from a shape by knot removal is represented by an associated wavelet coefficient replacing one of the control points at a coarser level of ...

In this paper we present a new kind of B-splines, called hyperbolic B-splines generated over the space spanned by hyperbolic functions and we use it to interpolate an arbitrary function on a set of points. Numerical tests for illustrating hyperbolic B-spline are presented.

Extensions of the classical B-spline curves by shape parameters are discussed in this paper. Using a method of linear blending, first we extend the abilities of GB-splines, originally defined by uniform shape parameter, to multiple shape parameters. Then two methods, having different types of continuity, are examined in terms of their curvature behavior.

This paper presents a simple and robust method for computing the bisector of two planar rational curves. We represent the correspondence between the foot points on two planar rational curves C1ðtÞ and C2ðrÞ as an implicit curve F(t,r) 1⁄4 0, where F(t,r) is a bivariate polynomial B-spline function. Given two rational curves of degree m in the xy-plane, the curve F(t,r) 1⁄4 0 has degree 4m 1 2, ...

This paper presents a scheme for interpolating intersecting uniform cubic B-spline curves by Catmull-Clark subdivision surfaces. The curves are represented by polygonal complexes and the neighborhoods of intersection points are modeled by X-Configurations. When these structures are embedded within a control polyhedron, the corresponding curves will automatically be interpolated by the surface l...
