OBJECTIVE To perform a function evaluation of patients before and after hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. METHODS From November 2008 to November 2010, 29 female (58%) and 21 male patients (42%) with median age of 48 years (range: 24-67) were enrolled in this study. Data collection was performed before and after autologous or allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. Evaluatio...

Introduction: We aimed at evaluating the clinical, laboratory and echocardiography effects of intracoronary administration of autologous bone marrow stem cell transplantation in different clinical entities of chronic Heart Failure (HF) patients.   Methods: This procedure was carried out during an interventional study conducted in the Cardiology department from JAN 2012 to APR 2013. The HF ...

There remains a clear need for effective tumor cell purging in autologous stem cell transplantation (ASCT) where residual malignant cells within the autograft contribute to disease relapse. Here we propose the use of a novel Fas agonist with potent pro-apoptotic activity, termed MegaFasL, as an effective ex-vivo purging agent. MegaFasL selectively kills hematological cancer cells from lymphomas...

Background Chronic allograft nephropathy(CAN)  is one of the most common causes of chronic and end stage renal disease. It  is defined with Mainly tubular atrophy and  interstitial fibrosis and no evidence of any other etiology, or functional disorder that caused at least three months after transplantation . Control of risk factors (HTN,DM,HLP, …) and limiting  usage of calcineurin inhibitors...

Background: Human umbilical cord blood (HUCB) is an acceptable and readily accessible source of stem cells. There is an ongoing interest in cord blood stem cell therapies; however, little is known about the possible unfavorable effects of laboratory modifications on the isolated HUCB cells. The involvement of miRNAs in several biological processes has been shown. The aim of this study was to ev...

The patient with multiple myeloma should be carefully evaluated from the standpoint of symptoms, physical findings, and laboratory data. If there are no symptoms or evidence of early or impending complications, the patient should not be treated. He or she should be followed and treatment delayed until progression of the disease occurs. If the patient is younger than 70 years, autologous periphe...

Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) includes a diverse set of conditions ranging from high-grade aggressive to more indolent low-grade disease. Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) has a valuable role in the management of these conditions and can provide long-term remission in selected cases. This article presents the current use of allogeneic and autologous HSCT in a number of subtypes of NHL.

The persistence of leukemic stem cells (LSCs) in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patients receiving chemotherapy may be responsible for the high frequency of relapse. The selective elimination of CD96+ AML-LSCs by means of CD96-specific monoclonal antibodies may be a promising therapeutic approach and revitalize autologous hematopoietic progenitor cell transplantation.
