The first case of spongiform encephalopathy in a zebu (Bos indicus) was identified in a zoo in Switzerland. Although histopathologic and immunohistochemical analyses of the central nervous system indicated a diagnosis of bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE), molecular typing showed some features different from those of BSE in cattle (B. taurus).

The two Chinese species of the leafhopper genus Exitianus Ball (Hemiptera: Cicadellidae: Deltocephalinae: Chiasmini) (Exitianus indicus (Distant) and Exitianus nanus (Distant)) are reviewed. Deinococcus indicus strain DR1, a red-pigmented, arsenic- and radiation-resistant bacterium, was isolated from a water sample of the Dadri wetland, Uttar Pradesh, India. Here, we report a draft genome sequence of this strain, which may provide useful information regarding the genes and pathways involved in heavy-metal bioremediation.

Toxicity studies of crude aqueous ethanolic extract of the roots of Hemidesmus indicus var. pubescens R. Br. Was carried out in two growth phases. The drug was administered orally and intra-peritonealy. It was found to possess nonspecific changes in liver. The results are discussed in detail.

Orthologous positions of 55 genes associated with height in four human populations were located on the bovine genome. Single nucleotide polymorphisms close to eight of these genes were significantly associated with stature in cattle (Bos taurus and Bos indicus). A second species of Synorchestes Voss, S. indicus sp. nov. is described from India. The species is a gall maker on Persea bombycina (King ex Hook.f) Kosterm. (Lauraceae), a very unusual habit among Rhamphini reported here for the first time. Synorchestes grisescens Voss genitalia is illustrated and a key to the two species is provided.
