In this work we aimed to optimize the production of extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) by an Arthrobacter viscosus biofilm supported on 13X zeolite to be used in the biosorption of Cr(VI). The optimization parameters were agitation rate, work volume, pH and glucose concentration. Following the optimization of EPS production, the biofilm was used in the biosorption of hexavalent Cr from li...

We report the complete genome sequence ofArthrobactersp. ATCC 21022, a strain maintained by ATCC and a commonly used host for bacteriophage isolation and genomic analysis. The strain is prophage-free and CRISPR-free but codes for two predicted restriction-modification systems.

Arthrobacter phenanthrenivorans is the type species of the genus, and is able to metabolize phenanthrene as a sole source of carbon and energy. A. phenanthrenivorans is an aerobic, non-motile, and Gram-positive bacterium, exhibiting a rod-coccus growth cycle which was originally isolated from a creosote polluted site in Epirus, Greece. Here we describe the features of this organism, together wi...

1. A micro-organism similar to Arthrobacter globiformis has been isolated from sewage by elective growth on a medium containing l-threonine as sole source of carbon and nitrogen. 2. Washed cell suspensions of the organism catalyse the complete disappearance of aminoacetone from the medium and its almost complete oxidation. 3. In the presence of iodoacetate, aminoacetone disappearance is accompa...
