background: chlamydia trachomatis is the most common sexually transmitted bacterial pathogen worldwide. early detection and treatment of c.trachomatis genital infection prevent serious reproductive complications.objective: performances of enzyme immunoassay (eia) and major outer membrane protein (momp)-polymerase chain reaction (pcr) for diagnosis of genital c.trachomatis infection in women wer...

Since genital infection with Chlamydia trachomatis may be associated with cervical abnormalities 160 patients with grandular ectopia attending a gynaecological outpatient clinic were examined for antibodies against C trachomatis, the presence of C trachomatis infection, and cytological and histopathological abnormalities of the cervix.A significantly higher incidence of histological dysplasia w...

It has recently been suggested that Chlamydia trachomatis may be a common cause of acute pharyngitis in adults. In a prospective investigation of 95 college students with acute pharyngitis, C. trachomatis was not isolated from any pharyngeal cultures. Further investigations are needed to better define the role of C. trachomatis in upper respiratory tract infections.

Chlamydia trachomatis imposes serious health problems and causes infertility. Because of asymptomatic onset, it often escapes antibiotic treatment. Therefore, vaccines offer a better option for the prevention of unwanted inflammatory sequelae. The existence of serologically distinct serovars of C. trachomatis suggests that a vaccine will need to provide protection against multiple serovars. Chl...

Chlamydia infections are epidemiologically linked to human heart disease. A peptide from the murine heart muscle-specific alpha myosin heavy chain that has sequence homology to the 60-kilodalton cysteine-rich outer membrane proteins of Chlamydia pneumoniae, C. psittaci, and C. trachomatis was shown to induce autoimmune inflammatory heart disease in mice. Injection of the homologous Chlamydia pe...

In a study of 3794 consecutive women attending a gynaecological outpatient clinic with symptoms of lower genital tract infection (LGTI) 350 (9.2%) harboured Chlamydia trachomatis and 83 (2.2%) Neisseria gonorrhoeae. One hundred and ninety-five patients who were later found to have acute salpingitis and 109 other women in whom the chlamydial cultures were spoiled were excluded from the series. O...

The Chlamydia trachomatis plasmid is a virulence factor. Plasmid copy number, C. trachomatis load and disease severity were assessed in a treatment-naive population where trachoma is hyperendemic. By using droplet digital PCR, plasmid copy number was found to be stable (median, 5.34 [range, 1 to 18]) and there were no associations with C. trachomatis load or disease severity.

AIMS To determine whether oro-pharyngeal colonisation by Chlamydia trachomatis occurs in patients at risk of genital chlamydia infection; to determine whether screening pharyngeal specimens by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) increases detection of C trachomatis compared with isolation and the immune dot blot test; and to correlate the detection of C trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae in the ...

This study was undertaken to determine the prevalence of Chlamydia trachomatis, Mycoplasmas, and Ureaplasmas in semen samples of the male partners of infertile couples and to investigate whether Chlamydia trachomatis could initiate apoptosis in human spermatozoa. A total of 85 males partners of infertile couples undergoing routine semen analysis according to World Health Organization guidelines...

Chlamydia trachomatis now is one of the most prevalent bacteria sexually transmissible diseases (STD), and as such, constitutes a serious public health problem. Diagnosis of Chlamydial infections is based on isolation of bacteria in tissue culture media that requires at least 48 to 72h. The aim of this study was the detection of Chlamydia trachomatis, using polymerase chain reaction (PCR), beca...
