Metabolic profiling using stable-isotope tracer technology enables the measurement of substrate redistribution within major metabolic pathways in living cells. This technique has demonstrated that transformed human cells exhibit profound metabolic shifts and that some anti-cancer drugs produce their effects by forcing the reversion of these metabolic changes. By revealing tumor-specific metabol...

I will discuss a new class of forcing axioms, the Resurrection Axioms (RA), and the Weak Resurrection Axioms (wRA). While Cohen’s method of forcing has been designed to change truths about the set-theoretic universe you live in, the point of Resurrection is that some truths that have been changed by forcing can in fact be resurrected, i.e. forced to hold again. In this talk, I will illustrate h...

from its emergence till present time marxist principles has undergone great changes since their promulgation by marx. many theorists and thinkers set at rectifying marxist tenets and introducing those of their own while others advocated its main concepts and attempted at improving them. among marxist philosophers who had an intensive study of marxs ideology, is louis althusser whose reflections...

The following is our main result. Theorem 1.1 Suppose that A ⊆ ω1 and = [A]. Then there exists a cardinal preserving generic extension [x] of the ground universe by a generic real x such that (i) A ∈ [x] – this implies [x] = [x], and A ∈ Δ 1 (x) in [x], (ii) x is a minimal real over , that is, x ∈ , and if a set Y belongs to [x], then x ∈ [Y ] or Y ∈ , 1) (iii) there is a club C ∈ [x], C ⊆ ω1, ...

We present two ways in which the model L(R) is canonical assuming the existence of large cardinals. We show that the theory of this model, with ordinal parameters, cannot be changed by small forcing; we show further that a set of ordinals in V cannot be added to L(R) by small forcing. The large cardinal needed corresponds to the consistency strength of ADL(R); roughly ω Woodin cardinals.

In radiative forcing and climate feedback frameworks, the initial stratospheric and tropospheric adjustments to a forcing agent can be treated as part of the forcing and not as a feedback, as long as the average global surface temperature response is negligible. Here, a very large initial condition ensemble of the Community Earth System Model is used to analyze how the ocean shapes the fast res...

Introduction to compare calculations from a set of models with operationally observed data. The differences we find will lead to the development of new models to be tested with new data. Similarly. our GCM studies will use existing GCMs to study the radiation sensitivity problem. We anticipate that the outcome of this approach will provide both a better longwave radiative forcing algorithm and ...

Global results are proved about the way in which Boyland’s forcing partial order organizes a set of braid types: those of periodic orbits of Smale’s horseshoe map for which the associated train track is a star. This is a special case of a conjecture introduced in [dCHb], which claims that forcing organizes all horseshoe braid types into linearly ordered families which are, in turn, parameterize...

We prove that when subjected to periodic forcing of the form pμ,ρ,ω(t) = μ(ρh(x, y) + sin(ωt)), certain second order systems of differential equations with dissipative homoclinic loops admit strange attractors with SRB measures for a set of forcing parameters (μ, ρ, ω) of positive measure. Our proof applies the recent theory of rank one maps, developed by Wang and Young [30, 34] based on the an...

We present a modification to the Prikry on Extenders forcing notion allowing the blow up of the power set of a large cardinal, change its cofinality to ω without adding bounded subsets, working directly from arbitrary extender (e.g., n-huge extender). Using this forcing, starting from a superstrong cardinal κ, we construct a model in which the added Prikry sequences are a scale in the normal Pr...
