purpose: to present a patient with localized corneal edema due to a small retained fragment of nucleus in the anterior chamber after uncomplicated phacoemulsification. case report: a 74-year-old female subject with history of phacoemulsification in her right eye about 1.5 years ago complained of foreign body sensation, pain and decreased vision in the same eye. visual acuity of that eye had dec...
Purpose: This study examines agreement between the devices Anterion® and Pentacam HR® used for corneal pupil measurements in healthy eyes. Methods: The parameters compared two were: anterior Km (D), K2 K1 axis (°), astigmatism K max posterior CCT (μm), thinnest point thickness X-coordinate (mm), Y-coordinate diameter center-corneal vertex distance (mm) (angle kappa), centroid angle (mm). Result...
PURPOSE This study was designed to investigate higher-order aberrations (HOAs) due to the posterior corneal surface in keratoconic eyes compared with normal eyes. METHODS We studied 24 normal and 28 keratoconic eyes. The anterior/posterior corneal heights and pachymetric data were obtained with a rotating Scheimpflug camera. HOAs for 6 mm pupils were calculated from the differences between th...
Background. To investigate the correlation between corneal biomechanics and the surgically induced corneal high-order aberrations (HOAs) after small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) and femtosecond laser in situ keratomileusis (FS-LASIK). Methods. A total of 150 right myopic eyes that underwent SMILE or FS-LASIK surgery were included in this retrospective study, 75 eyes in each group. The ...
PURPOSE We report a case of Terrien's marginal degeneration (TMD) with a unilaterally typical narrow band of peripheral corneal stroma thinning, accompanied by the presence of an unusual network of opacities diffusing throughout the anterior stroma layers. CASE REPORT A 43-year-old woman presented with superior nasal peripheral corneal thinning and an unusual network of polygonal stromal opac...
Posterior microphthalmos is a rare condition which is characterized by the disproportionately small size of the posterior segment of the eye. The corneal diameter, central anterior chamber depth and the lens thickness are all within the normal range. We present a case of posterior microphthalmos with all normal anterior segment measurements except increased corneal curvature.
Beef eye anterior chambers were perfused with media containing radiolabeled glycogen precursors. Incorporation of 14C from 1-alanine-U-14C into corneal epithelium glycogen suggested the presence of a gluconeogenic pathway in the eye. Failure to isolate radioactive glucose from 1-alanine-U-14C-containing perfusate after passage through the anterior chamber strongly suggests a corneal site for th...
PURPOSE To report normative results of anterior segment and corneal biometric parameters and their associations in ethnic South Asian Indian adults. METHODS The Singapore Indian Eye Study is a cross-sectional, population-based study of ethnic South Asian Indians ranging in age from 40 to 80 years. Subjects underwent ophthalmic and systemic examination, including imaging with anterior segment ...
Mini Review Posterior Corneal Astigmatism and It’s Importance in Selection of Toric Intraocular Lens
This mini review focuses on the current knowledge on posterior corneal astigmatism based on the latest research. In the first part the definition, the magnitude as well as methods and devices for its evaluation are presented. Posterior corneal astigmatism measurement is improving as new technologies are evolving. It is now shown that the posterior corneal surface acts as a negative lens and as ...
