A total o f 28 strains o f several species o f Rhizobium were screened for the presence and regulation of the enzyme alkaline phosphatase. In contrast to all other species o f Rhizobium, the activity of this enzyme was absent in R. trifolii. D ifferent levels o f alkaline phosphatase were observed in various species o f Rhizobium. Both, species as well as strain specific differences were found ...
In a cross-sectional survey 624 schoolchildren were screened for plasma calcium, inorganic phosphate, and alkaline phosphatase levels. Plasma magnesium and alkaline phosphatase isoenzymes were also estimated in some cases. No significant difference was found between adult and childhood values for calcium and magnesium. Levels of alkaline phosphatase and inorganic phosphorus varied with both age ...
A patient with a giant-cell carcinoma of the bronchus was found to have a raised serum alkaline phosphatase without any evidence of bone or liver involvement. After necropsy the excised tumour was found to be producing alkaline phosphatase. The alkaline phosphatase found in the serum during life was heat-labile but that in the tumour was heat-stable. The significance of this is unknown.
We have successfully implemented the supramolecular tandem assay principle for the real-time, continuous, direct, and label-free monitoring of alkaline phosphatase activity through a fluorescence "switch-off" assay based on a novel calixpyridinium/dye reporter pair. Because several diseases can be preliminarily diagnosed in light of an abnormal level of alkaline phosphatase in serum, the applic...
Hydrolysis of pyridoxal phosphate in plasma was demonstrated in patients with liver disease and other conditions with raised alkaline phosphatase, and this usually closely paralleled the alkaline phosphatase level, whether of liver or bone origin. The endogenous plasma pyridoxal phosphate was inversely related to the alkaline phosphatase, and plasma hydrolysis of pyridoxal phosphate may at leas...
background recently, the clinical use of low power lasers has increased, and it is said that wound healing is accelerated by their irradiation. the aim of this study was evaluation of the effect of platelet-rich plasma on proliferation and differentiation of human dental pulp stem cells with or without ga-al-as laser. methods: in this experimental study, human lower third molar dental pulp cell...
A study has been made of the effect of the ingestion of various foods on the concentration of alkaline phosphatase in the intestinal mucosa and the blood serum in rats. We have confirmed the findings of other investigators that fasting will reduce the serum alkaline phosphatase in rats (l-5) and that the feeding of fat or of protein but not of carbohydrate will increase it (2, 5). We have also ...
Immunohistochemical Characteristics of Histiocytes in Lymph Node Associated with Yellow-Brown Bodies
SUMMARY : Yellow-brown bodies were observed in the sinusoids of lymph nodes and histiocytes. The authors confirmed immunohistochemical reactivity of alpha-1-antichymotrypsin, lysozyme, and alkaline phosphatase in non-phagocytic histiocytes, and phagocytic histiocytes which contained yellow-brown bodies. Histio-cytes with yellow-brown bodies were not reacted to alpha-1-antichymotrypsin, lysozyme...
Serum alkaline phosphatase (SAP) rises after fat ingestion in humans (Langman et al., 1966; Warnock, 1968) and in rats (Jackson, 1952). Recent work in this unit has provided immunological evidence that, in the rat, the fat-induced increase in SAP activity is due predominantly to intestinal alkaline phosphatase (Saini & Posen, 1969). This paper demonstrates, also by an immunological technique, t...
Alkaline phosphatase [orthophosphoric-monoester phosphohydrolase (alkaline optimum), EC 3.1.3.1] in placenta, intestine, liver, kidney, bone, and lung from a variety of primate species has been characterized by quantitative inhibition, thermostability, and immunological studies. Characteristic human placental-type alkaline phosphatase occurs in placentas of great apes (chimpanzee and orangutan)...
