Immunity has been considered one of the most specific of biologic reactions and it has been assumed that an infection induced by one organism within a closely related group does not immunize against another organism of the same group. The recent studies of Weil, Felix, and Olitzki suggest strongly that there is a group immunity between typhoid and enteritidis infections. The results here report...

It was performed the comparison of the intensity and duration of agglutinating and neutralizing antibodies to serovar Hardjo in swines vaccinated with two commercial anti-leptospira bacterins. Sows no reactive to 24 Leptospira sp serovars in the microscopic agglutination test (MAT) were divided in three groups: Group A (n=08): received two vaccine A doses with 30 days interval, Group B (n=08) t...

Streptococcal grouping sera for groups A, B, C, and G prepared for conventional testing by precipitation were made specific by absorption and used to identify streptococci by slide agglutination with and without staphyloccocal coagglutination. Trypsinised suspensions of 1055 strains, identified by precipitation as belonging to group A, B, C, or G, were tested by slide agglutination. Of these, 9...

Sheep red cells coated with rabbit IgG antibody may be used to detect IgM rheumatoid factors either by agglutination or microscopically by the fluorescence of antihuman IgM antibody conjugate bound to rheumatoid factors on the cell surface. By substituting for red cells the plastic surface of a filter disc coated with rabbit IgG it was possible to elute the bound conjugate and measure the fluor...

Sera from 173 turkeys, 108 chickens, and 48 ducks from Giza, Egypt, were tested for the presence of anti-Toxoplasma gondii antibodies by means of the modified agglutination test using mercaptoethanol and formalin-fixed tachyzoites. The prevalence of anti-T. gondii antibodies (>1:25) among turkeys, chickens, and ducks was 59.5%, 47.2%, and 50%, respectively.

Raccoons (Procyon lotor) are intermediate hosts for Toxoplasma gondii, and clinical toxoplasmosis in raccoons has been reported. A 2-yr serological survey was conducted to determine the prevalence of antibodies to T. gondii in raccoons collected from Fairfax County, Virginia, a suburban/urban area outside Washington, D.C. Serum samples from 256 raccoons were examined for T. gondii antibodies at...

This cross-sectional study was conducted to estimate seroprevalence and to identify flock-level factors associated with seropositivity to brucellosis in small ruminants in Kerman province, southeastern Iran. In October-November 2011, serum samples were randomly collected from 1767 sheep and 1233 goats, older than 18 months, from 300 flocks. The sera were initially screened for the presence of a...

The diagnostic utility of immunochromatographic (Leptotek) and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA; Panbio) tests for the detection of Leptospira immunoglobulin M antibodies was assessed in febrile adults admitted in Vientiane, Laos. Both tests demonstrated poor diagnostic accuracy using admission serum (Leptotek sensitivity of 47.3% and specificity of 75.5%: ELISA sensitivity of 60.9% and...

subject may be taken to leave no doubt that natives of this country not only do get the disease, going through the usual clinical course, but also that the nature of the disease can be verified both bacteriologically and when occasion arises by the examination of the enteric lesions post-mortem. Dr. Childein a paper1 read before this Society in 1902 brought forward conclusive evidence to show t...
