A new feature space trajectory (FST) description of 3-D distorted views of an object is advanced for active vision applications. In an FST, di erent distorted object views are vertices in feature space. A new eigen-feature space and Fourier transform features are used. Vertices for di erent adjacent distorted views are connected by straight lines so that an FST is created as the viewpoint chang...
Deformable models are well known examples of artificially intelligent system (AIS). They have played an important role in the challenging problem of extracting useful information about regions and areas of interest (ROIs) imaged through different modalities. The challenge is also in extracting boundary elements belonging to the same ROI and integrate them into a coherent and consistent model of...
Modularity is the main characteristic of the biological systems and especially of the brain 2]. For example , Vision can be described as the interactions of diierent processing systems 1]. Physiologists relate two pathways from the retina. The rst conveys information from the retina to the cortical areas, where specialized areas analyse the visual data (e.g., colour vision, motion detection, ob...
This paper describes an on-going novel vision application to detect abnormal activities in an elevator. Dgference picture technique and human body motion analysis are proposed to accomplish the interpretation tasks. The interpretation makes use of the spatial and temporal features together with the scenario representation. The results obtained are encouraging and further analysis seems fruitful.
The authors describe an active 3D object recognition system that can learn complex 3D objects completely unsupervised and that can recognize previously learnt objects from different views. In this paper, we are focussing on a module for the recognition of objects in image sequences. Therefore, we evaluate the optical flow in the sequence and extract a set of invariant features. As a pattern rec...
Vision constitutes the most important sense in the vast majority of animals. Researchers in robotic systems, where biological inspiration has been always a reference, frequently try to make use of vision as a primary sensor. The technological advances have notably favoured this, permitting the incorporation of cameras to a wide variety of robots, including even low cost models. Initially config...
One of major research issues associated with 3D range acquisition is the creation of sensor systems with various functionalities and small size. A variety of machine vision techniques have been developed for the determination of 3D scene geometric information from 2D images. As one of active sensors, structured lighting method has been widely used because of its robustness on the illumination n...
Omni directional mobile robots have been popularly employed in several applications especially in soccer player robots considered in Robocup competitions. However, Omni directional navigation system, Omni-vision system and solenoid kicking mechanism in such mobile robots have not ever been combined. This situation brings the idea of a robot with no head direction into existence, a comprehensi...
ToF cameras are now a mature technology that is widely being adopted to provide sensory input to robotic applications. Depending on the nature of the objects to be perceived and the viewing distance, we distinguish two groups of applications: those requiring to capture the whole scene and those centered on an object. It will be demonstrated that it is in this last group of applications, in whic...
