In the crystal structure of the title mol-ecular salt, C(21)H(15)FNO(2) (+)·CF(3)SO(3) (-)·H(2)O, the cations form inversion dimers through π-π inter-actions between the acridine ring systems. These dimers are linked via C-H⋯O and C-F⋯π inter-actions to adjacent anions, and by C-H⋯π and C-F⋯π inter-actions to neighbouring cations. The water mol-ecule links two sites of the cation by C-H⋯O inter...

Six screening methods for the successful detection of significant bacteriuria--electrical impedance (Malthus), automated acridine-orange staining (Autotrak), particle counting (Ramus), bioluminescence, nitrite and leucocyte test strip (BM Nephur), and microscopy--were evaluated. All had excellent predictive values for a negative result (97%-100%) but were less accurate in predicting a positive ...

We have examined the effect of a naphthylquinoline triplex-binding ligand on the formation of intermolecular triplexes on DNA fragments containing the target sites A6G6xC6T6 and G6A6xT6C6. The ligand enhances the binding of T6C2, but not T2C6, to A6G6xC6T6 suggesting that it has a greater effect on TxAT than C+xGC triplets. The complex with T6C2 is only stable below pH 6.0, confirming the requi...

In the title complex, [PtBr(2)(C(13)H(9)N)(2)], the Pt(II) ion is four-coordinated in a slightly distorted square-planar environment by two N atoms from two acridine ligands and two Br atoms. The Pt atom is located on an inversion centre, and thus the asymmetric unit contains one half of the complex and the PtN(2)Br(2) unit is exactly planar. The dihedral angle between the PtN(2)Br(2) unit and ...

The asymmetric unit of the title compound, (C(13)H(10)N)(2)[Pt(NCS)(4)], contains a protonated acridine molecule and one half of a [Pt(NCS)(4)](2-) anion. In the complex anion, the Pt(II) ion is located on an inversion centre and is four-coordinated in a slightly distorted square-planar environment by four S atoms from four thio-cyanate ligands. The compound displays numerous inter-molecular π-...

The generation in vivo of plasmids deleted at specific sites in strains of Klebsiella pneumoniae containing R plasmids, by treatment with high concentrations of acridine orange (1.2 mg/ml) at 42 degrees C are reported. These deletions seem to be site specific because loss of specific restriction fragments after digestion with restriction enzymes was demonstrated.

Rutacridone, 1-hydroxy-A-methylacridone, and l-hydroxy-3-methoxy-A-methylacridone have been isolated for the first time from callus cultures, which had been obtained from meristematic stem cells of Ruta graveolens L. The alkaloids were identified by co-chromatography with authentic compounds, by IR spectra, and by electronic spectra before and after addition of A1C13 . The use of the bathochrom...

The development or ripening of the oocyst of the coccidium of the rabbit is prevented by acridine hydrochloride provided that the cysts are exposed to the action of the chemical before development has started. After sporoblasts are formed acridine does not prevent further development. Many other substances, some of them known to be active against certain protozoan parasites, have no influence o...

Mouse peritoneal macrophages exposed to type-specific polysaccharide and peptidoglycan (PPG) from group A streptococci undergo marked morphologic and biochemical changes. The cells show increases in size and an increased number of lysosomes as demonstrated by vital staining with acridine orange. There are significant elevations in the levels of both lysosomal and nonlysosomal enzymes. Higher do...
