Optical nonlinearities of spin coated ZnO thin film have been investigated by using single beam Z-Scan technique in the visible region. Xray diffraction shows that all films are oriented along the c-axis direction of the hexagonal crystal structure. The average optical transmittance of all films is higher than 80 %. The nonlinear optical parameters viz. nonlinear absorption coefficient (), non...

We describe a high sensitivity and high spectral resolution laser absorption spectrometer based upon the frequency-stabilized cavity ring-down spectroscopy (FS-CRDS) technique. We used the Pound-Drever-Hall (PDH) method to lock the probe laser to the high-finesse ring-down cavity. We show that the concomitant narrowing of the probe laser line width leads to dramatically increased ring-down even...

Danckwert's method was used to determine the specific interfacial area, a, and the individual mass transfer coefficient, k(L), during absorption of CO(2) in a bubble column with an anionic surfactant in the carbonate-bicarbonate buffer solution and NaAsO(2) as catalyst, the presence of which decreases the specific interfacial area and the individual mass transfer coefficient. The specific inter...

Based on an independent forward model in fluorescent tomography, a parallel reconstructed scheme for inhomogeneous mediums with unknown absorption property is proposed in this paper. The method considers the two diffusion equations as separately describing the propagation of excited light in tissues with and without fluorescent probes inside. Then the concentration of fluorophores is obtained d...

In this paper we consider the Interband Light Absorption Coefficient for various models. We show that at the lower and upper edges of the spectrum the Lifshitz tails behaviour of the density of states implies similar behaviour for the ILAC at appropriate energies. The Lifshitz tails property is also exhibited at some points corresponding to the internal band edges of the density of states.

of a thesis at the University of Miami. Thesis supervised by Suhrud M. Rajguru, Ph.D., and Nelson Salas, Ph.D. No. of pages in text. (50) The optical properties of a rat muscle and myocardium were measured at two wavelengths 980 and 1860 nm. The tissues used in this experiment were fresh and sliced to a specific thickness of 600 μm. A single integrating sphere system was used to determine the d...

Development of materials with the ideal black body absorption spectrum are of great interest. Such materials could improve the efficiency of solar cells, and passive cooling and heat transfer systems as well as the protective and decorative coatings. Fabricating black anodizing coatings is promising for this purpose because they exhibit low light reflection from the surface. Such coatings can ...

In this paper, we describe the numerical reconstruction method for quantitative photoacoustic tomography (QPAT) based on the radiative transfer equation (RTE), which models light propagation more accurately than diffusion approximation (DA). We investigate the reconstruction of absorption coefficient and/or scattering coefficient of biological tissues. Given the scattering coefficient, an impro...

A non-invasive method of detecting glucose concentration using differential absorption low-coherence interferometry (DALCI) based on rapid scanning optical delay line is presented. Two light sources, one centered within (1625 nm) a glucose absorption band, while the other outside (1310 nm) the glucose absorption band, are used in the experiment. The low-coherence interferometry (LCI) is employe...

The aim in quantitative photoacoustic imaging (QPI) is to recover the spatial distributions of the optical absorption and scattering coefficients from an absorbed energy density distribution (a conventional photoacoustic image). This paper proposes a gradient-based minimisation approach and demonstrates that functional gradients may be calculated efficiently by using a finite element model of l...
