Production of alkaline protease from Bacillus licheniformis (NCIM 2044) was studied and characterized. Of different cheap source media chosen, maximum production of 172.425 U/ml was obtained for 1% wheat bran containing media. The enzyme assay at various optimum pH and temperatures were also determined.

Laboratory studies were conducted to determine the effect of temperature and cold storage on the performance of Tetrastichus brontispae (Ferriere) (Hymenoptera: Eulophidae), one of the major endoparasitoids against coconut hispine beetle, Brontispa longissima (Gestro) (Coleptera: Chrysomelidae). The results revealed that T. brontispae could successfully parasitize host pupae under all seven tes...

Thiosulfate-oxidizing enzyme has been demonstrated in cell-free extracts of the marine, thiosulfate-oxidizing pseudomonad strain 16B. The enzyme, partially purified by ion-exchange chromatography and calcium phosphate gel treatment, catalyzed the oxidation of thiosulfate to tetrathionate with the concomitant reduction of ferricyanide. Native but not mammalian cytochrome c was also reduced by th...

Although maintaining polymer electrolyte fuel cells (PEFC) at temperatures below 80 C is desirable for extended durability and enhanced performance, the automotive application also requires the PEFC stacks to operate at elevated temperatures and meet the heat rejection constraint, stated as Q/DT < 1.45 kW/ C, where Q is the stack heat load for an 80-kWe net power PEFC system and DT is the diffe...

The purpose of this paper is to present an analysis of the relation between the temperature and the duration of a biological process. The numerous investigations which have already been published (Kanitz, 1915) have demonstrated that biological activities exhibit variations in rate at different temperatures. Usually the speed of the process is an exponential function of the temperature. Occasio...

An empirical electrical conductivity assessment of nanofluids comprising CuO nanoparticles water-based in different concentrations, particles size and various temperatures of nanofluids has been carried out in this paper. These experimentations have been done in deionized water with nanoparticles sizes such as 89, 95, 100 and 112 nm and concentrations of 0.12 g/l, 0.14 g/l, 0.16 g/l and 0.18 g/...

CO-free hydrogen is produced by the reversible cyclic stepwise steam reforming of methane for use in fuel cells and other processes that are sensitive to CO poisoning. The process consists of two steps involving the decomposition of methane in a first step followed by steam gasification of the surface carbon in a second step. The ease of carbon removal in step II is strongly dependent on temper...

Bloom of Dunaliella salina was observed naturally in stagnant puddles of water off Kuwait's Bubiyan Island on 4 July 2004. In order to closely monitor this bloom, alga were collected and maintained as pure culture of the locally isolated D. salina. Set of experiments was conducted to study and evaluate the optimum culture conditions required for two samples of D. salina (one locally isolated an...

The fluidised bed drying characteristics of soybeans at high temperatures (110-140 degrees C) and moisture contents, 31-49% dry basis, were modelled using drying equations from the literature. Air speeds of 2.4-4.1 m/s and bed depths from 10 to 15 cm were used. The minimum fluidised bed velocity was 1.9 m/s. From a quality point of view, fluidised bed drying was found to reduce the level of ure...

BACKGROUND AND AIMS There is a conspicuous increase of poikilohydric organisms (mosses, liverworts and macrolichens) with altitude in the tropics. This study addresses the hypothesis that the lack of bryophytes in the lowlands is due to high-temperature effects on the carbon balance. In particular, it is tested experimentally whether temperature responses of CO(2)-exchange rates would lead to h...
