Green, Tao and Ziegler [GT, TZ] prove “Dense Model Theorems” of the following form: if R is a (possibly very sparse) pseudorandom subset of set X , and D is a dense subset of R, then D may be modeled by a set M whose density inside X is approximately the same as the density of D in R. More generally, they show that a function that is majorized by a pseudorandom measure can be written as a sum o...

Astrom and Hagglund developed tuning rules in 1995 for PID controllers that outperform the 1942 Ziegler-Nichols rules on an industrially representative set of plants. In this paper, we use genetic programming to automatically discover tuning rules for PID controllers that outperform the Astrom-Hagglund rules for the industrially representative set of plants specified by Astrom and Hagglund. Fifty years ago Ziegler and co-workers reported the Aufbaureaktion for alkylaluminum compounds.[1] This reaction involves a stepwise insertion of ethylene into the Al C bonds of, for example, triethylaluminum to give long-chain trialkylaluminum compounds [Eq. (1)]. Today, this chaingrowth reaction is commercially exploited for the synthesis of linear -olefins and primary alcohols from ethylene.[2]

Four chromium based oxo-trinuclear carboxylate complexes were prepared by reacting chromium(III) nitrate nonahydrate with acetic acid and substituted carboxylic acids. They were characterized using infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). Chromium content of the complexes was determined by titrimetry method. The chromium(III) monochloroacetate complex, [Cr3O(ClCH2COO)6.3H2O]NO3.3H2O in combination with d...

This paper presents two sets of tuning rules for fractional PIDs that rely solely on the same plant time-response data used by the first Ziegler-Nichols tuning rule for (usual, integer) PIDs. Thus no model for the plant to control is needed; only an Sshaped step response is. These rules are quadratic and their results compare well with those obtained with rule-tuned integer PIDs. This paper presents an analysis of the Ziegler-Nichols frequency response method for tuning PI controllers, showing that this method has severe limitations. The limitations can be overcome by a simple modification for processes where the time delay is not too short. By a major modification it is possible to obtain new tuning rules that also cover processes that are lag dominated.

Given a commutative coherent ring R, a bijective correspondence between the thick subcategories of perfect complexes Dper(R) and the Serre subcategories of finitely presented modules is established. To construct this correspondence, properties of the Ziegler and Zariski topologies on the set of (iso-classes for) indecomposable injective modules are essentially used.
