wireless ad hoc networks are composed of independent nodes managing the network without any infrastructure. the connection between nodes is provided by sending packages and by trusting to each other. therefore, using efficient and certain protocols is the essential requirement of these networks. due to special characteristics of wireless ad hoc networks such as lack of a fixed infrastructure, t...

Nowadays, the cross layer integration of the different elements composing a wireless sensor network is seen as the most effective approach towards the deployment of long-lasting operating and self-configuring networks. In this work, we undertake the task of developing and integrating a smart and power-aware protocol architecture. We focus our efforts on the physical, MAC protocol and self-confi...

In an effort to better guide research into self-configuring wireless sensor networks, we discuss a technical definition of the term self-organization. We define a selforganizing system as one where a collection of units coordinate with each other to form a system that adapts to achieve a goal more efficiently. We then lay out some conditions that must hold for a system to meet this definition a...

In this paper, we studied a hybrid wireless network including UWB devices and WiFi devices together and analyze the characteristics of selfish behavior and the methods how to expose it. In order to improve the self-giving cooperation between the nodes in hybrid wireless networks and increase the fairness index of the whole networks, a security mechanism was proposed in this paper. The punishmen...

The major challenge faced by wireless sensor networks is security. Because of dynamic and collaborative nature of sensor networks the connected sensor devices makes the network unusable. To solve this issue, a trust model is required to identify malicious, selfish and compromised nodes. It supports the decision making processes in wireless sensor networks such as pre key-distribution, data aggr...

Recent advancements in micro-electromechanical-systems made it feasible to deploy low-cost, self-configuring wireless sensor networks for monitoring an area of interest with fine granularity. Due to its commercial potential, monitoring of large public buildings is a significant emerging application area for wireless sensor networks. Wireless sensor networks can be deployed for monitoring the re...

Here we provide a detailed analysis, along with some extensions and additonal investigations, of a recently proposed [1] self–organised model for the evolution of complex networks. Vertices of the network are characterised by a fitness variable evolving through an extremal dynamics process, as in the Bak–Sneppen [2] model representing a prototype of Self–Organized Criticality. The network topol...

In this paper, we introduce a distributed algorithm to compute the Čech complex. This algorithm is aimed at solving coverage problems in self organized wireless networks. Two applications based on the distributed computation of the Čech complex are proposed. The first application detects coverage holes while the later one optimizes coverage of wireless networks.
