The success of a learning environment can be measured in terms of improvement in learner performances as well as positive learner engagement in metacognitive traits. A large body of educational technology literature establishes a positive correlation between the application of learning technologies and learner performances. In addressing the other aspect of success, this chapter presents a stud...

A pilot study is presented comparing the performance of complex bowing patterns of three violinists. Analysis of the movements revealed a subtle coordination between string crossings and bow changes in repetitive bowing patterns across two and three strings. Clear differences between the performances of the three players were found that could be interpreted in terms of consistency and efficienc...

The education of the Turkish makam music practice is carried out by face-to-face sessions with the masters. Our aim in this work is to present a rhythm training software that helps users imitate recording of a master and receive visual feedback about their performances compared to the recording of the master. The system automatically detects onsets in the recordings and then performs comparison...

Two antagonistic models are used to model the training-performance relationship during an eight week cycling training, with a prediction of the performances in the last week of training. Results indicated different qualities of the model fits for the test data for both models. Mean differences between predicted and real performances were 2.39% for the Fitness-Fatigue-Model and 4.43% for the Per...

It is apparent that developing dynamic models of business processes prior to their change could increase the success of business renovation (BR) projects. Simulation has an important role in modelling and analysing the activities in introducing BR since it enables quantitative estimations of influence of the redesigned process on system performances. An example is presented to investigate some ...

While many countries have implemented various incentives to promote homeownership, this paper investigates the literature on the relationship between this residential status and the labour market performances. Since the rather negative original contribution by Oswald (1996), the literature has been extending the analyses to more precise measures of labor markets performances, to more subtle des...

A new scheme for sequence coding based on the iterated functions systems theory is presented. The method relies on a 3D approach in which the sequence is adaptively partitioned. Each partition block can be coded either by using the spatial self similarities or by exploiting temporal redundancies. The proposed system shows very good performances when compared to other existing methods.
