Erythrocytes from blood of mice infected with Eperythrozoon coccoides for 3 or 4 days agglutinated spontaneously. Washed E. coccoides particles agglutinated washed erythrocytes of uninfected mice. E. coccoides-mediated agglutination of normal mouse erythrocytes would be an excellent system for studies of bacterial adhesion.

BACKGROUND : Grass pollen grain, an important aeroallergen, can disperse in the environment pollen cytoplasmic granules (PCGs) able to release water-soluble allergens when they are washed out by rainfall. The allergenicity of these washed PCGs is, however, preserved. OBJECTIVE : The purpose of the study was to assess the allergenic potential of washed and unwashed PCGs, from Phleum pratense p...

An evaluation of a mechanical barrier to prevent movement of adult and larval lesser mealworm, Alphitobius diaperinus (Panzer); larder beetle, Dermestes lardarius L.; and hide beetle, Dermestes maculatus De Geer was conducted in caged-layer poultry facilities in New York and Maine. The barrier, a plastic collar wrapped around building support posts, proved highly effective at preventing movemen...

A series of experiments were conducted in laboratory at The University of Agriculture, Peshawar to determine the optimal duration and maximal concentration of zinc (Zn) and phosphorus (P) for priming wheat seed. The seeds were soaked through a range of durations (0, 12, 18, 24, 36 and 48 h) and tested for germination as surface dry and dried to original moisture (12%). Seed soaked for 18 h resu...

The objective was to investigate the effect of intake before fasting on concentrations of metabolites and hormones, respiratory quotient (RQ) and fasting heat production (HP) using the washed rumen technique and to compare these values with those from the fed state. Six Holstein steers (360±22 kg) were maintained at 21°C and fed three different energy intakes within a replicated 3×3 Latin squar...

This study aimed to quantify the effect of membrane surface porosity on particulate fouling predicted by MFI-UF method at constant flux. Firstly, polyethersulfone UF membranes (5–100 kDa) was determined using ultra-high resolution SEM. Thereafter, measured suspensions polystyrene particles (75 nm), which were pre-washed remove surfactant and particle fractions smaller than pores membranes, thus...
