Based on mixedness definition as ( ), we obtain a new variance-based uncertainty equality along with an inequality for Hermitian operators of a single-qubit system. The obtained uncertainty equality can be used as a measure of the system mixedness. A qubit system with feedback control is also exploited to demonstrate the new uncertainty. Gödel’s Incompleteness Theorem reveals a basic uncertainty in algebraic expressions, especially those used upon experimental data. A number-theoretical extension is devised to measure this uncertainty: "Hallucinatory numbers" or "H-numbers". H-number uncertainty is collapsed, or "visualised" with the aid of Wibbel functions. An example calculation of the terms of a Wibbel function is given.

In this paper, we propose a novel confidence measure to improve the performance of spoken term detection (STD). The proposed confidence measure is based on the context consistency between a hypothesized word and its context in word lattice. When calculating the context consistency of a hypothesized word, the proposed confidence measure considers not only the semantic similarity between words bu...

The paper extends the recently developed robust LQG control design methodology to stochastic uncertain systems with a normalised coprime factor uncertainty structure. To consider this class of model uncertainties, a special technique of probability measure transformations is developed. As a by-product, other types of the model uncertainty, for example, those reflecting passivity of the uncertai...

In this paper, we propose a novel confidence measure to improve the performance of spoken term detection (STD). The proposed confidence measure is based on the context consistency between a hypothesized word and its context in a word lattice. The main contribution of this paper is to compute the context consistency by considering the uncertainty in the results of speech recognition and the effe...

Abstract. In this paper we study distributionally robust stochastic programming in a setting 7 where there is a specified reference probability measure and the uncertainty set of probability mea8 sures consists of measures in some sense close to the reference measure. We discuss law invariance of 9 the associated worst case functional and consider two basic constructions of such uncertainty set...

We set up a model for reasoning about metric spaces with belief theoretic measures. The uncertainty in these spaces stems from both probability and metric structures. To represent both aspect of uncertainty, we choose an expected distance function as a measure of uncertainty. A formal logical system is constructed for the reasoning about expected distance. Soundness and completeness are shown f...

This paper develops a new uncertainty measure for the theory of hints that complies with the established semantics of statistical information theory and further satisfies all classical requirements for such a measure imposed in the literature. The proposed functional decomposes into conversant uncertainty measures and therefore discloses a new interpretation of the latters as well. By abstracti...

In 1928, George D. Birkhoff introduced the Aesthetic Measure, defined as the ratio between order and complexity, and, in 1965, Max Bense analyzed Birkhoff’s measure from an information theory point of view. In this paper, the concepts of order and complexity in an image (in our case, a painting) are analyzed in the light of Shannon entropy and Kolmogorov complexity. We also present a new vision...
