Wheat is one of the most important cereal crops in the world. To identify the candidate genes for mineral accumulation, it is important to examine differential transcriptome between wheat genotypes, with contrasting levels of minerals in grains. A transcriptional comparison of developing grains was carried out between two wheat genotypes- Triticum aestivum Cv. WL711 (low grain mineral), and T. ...

A field study was conducted to investigate the effects of supplemental ultraviolet-B radiation (280-320 nm) on the growth, biomass allocation and yield of two tropical cultivars (HD 2329 and HUW 234) of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) at four different combinations of mineral nutrients (N, P and K). Supplemental UV-B caused reductions in biomass, shoot length, root length, yield and harvest index....

Wheat bugs are widely distributed in various areas of Europe, Asia and North Africa. Species belonging to the genus Eurygaster and Aelia pierce wheat kernels affecting protein quality. The effects of these insects’ feeding activity have been studied mainly in bread wheat (Triticum aestivum L.). This study provides information on the degradation of prolamin proteins (glutenins and gliadins) of b...

effect of static magnetic field (smf) on plants is a matter of debate. in the present study plausible useful effects of smf on wheat plant (triticum aestivum l.) via improvement of antioxidant system and iron/ferritin fortification were evaluated. the plants were cultivated in pots and in their reproductive stages were treated with or without a 30 mt smf for 4 days, each 5h. the activity of ant...

The diploid species that donated the A and D genomes to the polyploid wheats have been recognized for some time. New evidence indicates that Triticum speltoides cannot be the B genome donor to T. turgidum or T. aestivum. T. speltoides is probably homologous to the G genome of T. timopheevii. The donor of the B genome to T. turgidum and T. aestivum is currently unrecognized.

Resin extractable Mo explained 72% of the variation in yield of wheat (Triticum aestivum) grown on ten acid soils as measured by the relative yield of the tops or by the uptake of Mo by the youngest emerged blade.

Flavonoids tricin, iso-orientin, vanillin, iso-vitexin, apigenin, 8-hydroxy flavones, 4’-hydroxy chalcone have been isolated from leaves of early stage triticum aestivum. Their quantitative analysis has been done through elemental and spectral analysis.

Single- and low-copy genes are less likely to be subject to concerted evolution. Thus, they are appropriate tools to study the origin and evolution of polyploidy plant taxa. The plastid 3-phosphoglycerate kinase gene (Pgk-1) sequences from 44 accessions of Triticum and Aegilops, representing diploid, tetraploid, and hexaploid wheats, were used to estimate the origin of Triticum petropavlovskyi....
