production of extracellular amylase was demonstrated under conditions of high salinity in aerobically cultivated culture of a newly isolated moderately halophilic gram-positive coccus, designated strain f in basal medium containing peptone from meat, yeast extract, nacl (7% w/v) and starch. biochemical and physiological characterization along with 16s rrna sequence analysis placed f in the genu...

Despite increasing interest in and use of nanoparticles (NP), the environmental consequences using NP are poorly understood because most relevant studies have not taken effects natural coatings on into consideration. The aim this study was to improve our understanding fates aquatic systems. silver (AgNP) capped with citrate polyethylene glycol dispersed ecotoxicological matrices presence enviro...

Table 1. The eflect of norvaline on citrulline synthesis Rat liver mitochondria (3.0 mg of protein/ml) were incubated in a medium containing lOOmM-KcI, 50mM-Tris/HCI, 1 mMEGTA, 1 mM-ATP, 20m~-succinate, 2pg of rotenone/ml, 5 mM-potassium phosphate, 16.6 mM-KHCO,, 10 mM-NH,CI and 3 m~-[~‘Clornithine (0.5 pCi/ml). After 4 min, mitochondria were separated from the suspending medium by silicone-oil...

The oxidation of malate, citrate, and alpha-ketoglutarate by cauliflower (Brassica oleacea L.) bud mitochondria was inhibited by rotenone. This inhibition was relieved upon addition of NAD(+) to the medium, and ADP/O values were lowered to less than 2 when both rotenone and NAD(+) were present. Dinitrophenol did not affect the relief of rotenone inhibition by exogenous NAD(+).

A highly sensitive denitrification bioassay was developed for detection of NO3- and NO2- in rhizosphere soil samples. Denitrifying Pseudomonas aeruginosa ON12 was grown anaerobically in citrate (30 mM) minimal medium with KClO3 (10 mM) and NaNO2 (3 mM), which gave cells capable of NO2- reduction to N2O but incapable of NO3- reduction to NO2-. Growth on citrate minimal medium further resulted in...

The CO2-ratios method is applied to the analysis of abnormalities of TCA (tricarboxylic acid)-cycle metabolism in AS-30D rat ascites-hepatoma cells. This method utilizes steady-state 14CO2-production rates from pairs of tracers of the same compound to evaluate TCA-cycle flux patterns. Equations are presented that quantitatively convert CO2 ratios into estimates of probability of flux through TC...

The effect of variation of total CO2 concentration at constant pH on the intermediates of the Embden-Meyerhof pathway and citric acid cycle in the isolated perfused liver has been studied. Total CO2 concentration of the perfusate was changed either from 10 to 34 mM or from 34 to 10 rn~ at pH 7.40 at the midpoint of Z-hour liver perfusions. In livers perfused with a medium containing 14 mu glyce...

Ignorance of the true length of the DNA molecules in the chromosomes of higher organisms has always been a major obstacle to understanding chromosome structure. Consequently, attempts have been made, usually with the aid of electron microscopy, to estimate the size of DNA in higher organisms. Solari' has reported the longest such DNA measured before now-a DNA fiber from a sea urchin sperm at le...

1. In the isolated perfused rat heart, the contractile activity and the oxygen uptake were varied by altering the aortic perfusion pressure, or by the atrial perfusion technique (;working heart'). 2. The maximum increase in the contractile activity brought about an eightfold increase in the oxygen uptake. The rate of glycolytic flux rose, while tissue contents of hexose monophosphates, citrate,...
