Serum transaminases were determined according to the method ofKarmen, Wrobleski, and LaDue (1955) (normal values for our laboratory: SGOT and SGPT up to 15 i.u./ litre), serum salicylate levels with Trinder's reagent, fibrinogen according to the method of Clauss (1957), fibrinogen degradation products (FDP) by the immunodiffusion technique (Ouchterlony), and Factor V according to the method of ...

Several α-alkylated β-amino esters have been obtained via DKR processes employing a kit of transaminases and isopropylamine as an amino donor in aqueous medium under mild conditions. Thus, while acyclic α-alkyl-β-keto esters afforded excellent conversions and enantioselectivities, although usually low diastereoselectivities, using more constrained cyclic β-keto esters high to excellent inductio...

Extrahepatic manifestations of hepatitis A are very unusual. We describe a case of prolonged cholestatic hepatitis A in a patient with generalized lymphadenopathy. With normalization of transaminases, there was an accompanying reduction in size of these lymph nodes. Lymphadenopathy reflects ongoing hepatic inflammation in prolonged cholestatic hepatitis A.

A 17-year-old male with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) presented to clinic with elevated transaminases and a positive antinuclear antibody (ANA) screen. Due to concern for autoimmune hepatitis, a liver biopsy was performed which revealed Mauriac syndrome. This case report is the second known description of a child with Mauriac syndrome presenting with positive autoimmune markers.

BACKGROUND Alanine transaminase (ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) are referred to as liver transaminases. Although used routinely in clinical practice for decades, their role as predictors of mortality has not been examined until recently. We studied the predictive value of these serum transaminases in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) treated with primar...

A new colorimetric method has been developed to screen transaminases using an inexpensive amine donor. The assay is sensitive, has a low level of background coloration, and can be used to identify and profile transaminase activities against aldehyde and ketone substrates in a high-throughput format. Significantly it is also amendable to solid phase colony screening.

Building blocks with amine functionality are crucial in the chemical industry. Biocatalytic syntheses and chemicals derived from renewable resources increasingly desired to achieve sustainable production of these amines. As a result, materials such as furfurals, especially furfurylamines like 5-(hydroxymethyl)furfurylamine (HMFA) 2,5-di(aminomethyl)furan (DAF), gaining increasing attention. In ...
