This study proposes the following two methods applying one-dimensional FFT (fast Fourier transform) algorithm: (1) a method for finding pleasant photographs of local tourist spots, and (2) a method for creating music from these photographs. We define “pleasant photograph” as the photograph containing 1/f noise components since it has been suggested that the 1/f -noise structure in visual art as...
This paper presents a new model to coordinate the movements of a large number of autonomous agents in a ubiquitous computing scenario. This model is based on the concept of computational fields (Co-Fields): distributed data structures providing agents with a perception of the environment in terms of abstract force fields. Fields are dynamically constructed by the components of an embedded infra...
The growing perception that the Internet is becoming an engine of global economic and social change has inspired both governments and intergovernmental agencies to accelerate the diffusion of the Internet around the globe via multimillion dollar programs and initiatives. The presentation of information using multiple modalities influences the perception of users, their comfort, and their performance in using a computer-based information system. This paper presents a user study investigating the effects of different output modality-combinations on the effectiveness to transport information and on the user’s acceptance of the system. We chose a tourist informatio...
This study attempts to explore the significance of visitors' perceptions of a site in relation to their own heritage as an important factor for understanding tourist behaviour and for the management of heritage settings. The Anne Frank House in Amsterdam, The Netherlands was chosen as the focus of the current research, which is composed of two field studies. The first, relates to tourists who h...
TeleMorph dynamically generates multimedia presentations using output modalities that are determined by the bandwidth available on a mobile device’s wireless connection. To demonstrate the effectiveness of this research TeleTuras, a tourist information guide for the city of Derry will implement the solution provided by TeleMorph, thus demonstrating its effectiveness. This paper concentrates on ...
