this thesis is based upon the works of samuel beckett. one of the greatest writers of contemporary literature. here, i have tried to focus on one of the main themes in becketts works: the search for the real "me" or the real self, which is not only a problem to be solved for beckett man but also for each of us. i have tried to show becketts techniques in approaching this unattainable goal, base...

Jean Nicod (1893–1924) is a French philosopher and logician who worked with Russell during the First World War. His PhD, preface from Russell, was published under title La géométrie dans le monde sensible in 1924, year of his untimely death. The book did not have impact he deserved. In this paper, I discuss methodological aspect Nicod’s approach. My aim twofold. would first like to show that de...

In his recent book, Creative Actualization: A Meliorist Theory of Values, Hugh McDonald wades into the murky waters of value theory in order to develop a uniquely pragmatist theory of value. He ties value to what he calls “creative actualizations,” or the process of introducing novelties, conditions, norms and principles into our individual and collective experience. Creative actualization acco...

the distinction between « appearance » and « reality » goes back to the origins of western philosophy. the greek philosophers almost have considered the appearance as a distortion of the true essence of things and, as such, have strived to establish the reality behind the elusive and ephemeral appearances. the visual arts were condemned by this devaluation of appearances principally in plato’s ...

We have expressed recombinant RNase P protein from Escherichia coli in high yield. A hexahistidine sequence at the amino terminus allowed protein purification in a single step. Mass spectrometry confirmed the molecular weight of the purified protein and indicated a purity of > 95%. Protein functionality was demonstrated by reconstitution of active holoenzyme.

Site-specific fluorescent labeling of proteins in vivo remains one of the most powerful techniques for imaging complex processes in live cells. Although fluorescent proteins in many colors are useful tools for tracking expression and localization of fusion proteins in cells, these relatively large tags (>220 aa) can perturb protein folding, trafficking and function. Much smaller genetically enc...

BACKGROUND Making peptide pharmaceuticals involves challenging processes where many barriers, which include production and manufacture, need to be overcome. A non common but interesting research area is related to peptides with intracellular targets, which opens up new possibilities, allowing the modulation of processes occurring within the cell or interference with signaling pathways. However,...

Recombinant clathrin protein fragments form assemblies that template gold nanocrystals in an array across the latticed surface. The nanocrystals exhibit unusual anisotropic morphologies with long range ordering, both of which are dependent upon the presence of a hexahistidine tag on the clathrin heavy chain fragments.

Leviathan In Metaphors we live by, Lakoff and Johnson cite Thomas Hobbes (1588-1679) and John Locke (1632-1704) as the chief proponents of a philosophical trend through which " the suspicion of poetry and rhetoric became dominant in Western thought " and " metaphor and other figurative devices [became] objects of scorn " (Lakoff and Johnson 1980: 190). In his overview over " Metaphor in the Phi...

A philosophical rule which is of prime importance in transcendent wisdom is the rule expressed as “ basit ul-haqiqah koll ul-ashya wa laysat bi shayin minha, the simple truth is all things and, at the same time, it is none of them”. Although the philosophical rule is essentially for adducing the unity of God, it has other applications which could be obtained through enumerating its latent featu...
