We demonstrate a mid-infrared Raman-soliton continuum extending from 1.9 to 3 µm in a highly germanium-doped silica-clad fiber, pumped by a nanotube mode-locked thulium-doped fiber system, delivering 12 kW sub-picosecond pulses at 1.95 µm. This simple and robust source of light covers a portion of the atmospheric transmission window.

A high-performance AlGaInAs quantum-well saturable absorber is developed for passively Q-switched Er-Yb double-clad fiber lasers at 1560 nm. With an incident pump power of 13.5 W, an average output power of 1.26 W with a pulse repetition rate of 12 kHz is obtained. The maximum peak power is greater than 500 W.

We report the implementation of vector bending sensors using long-period gratings (LPGs) UV-inscribed in flat-clad, four-core and D-shaped fibres. Our experiments reveal a strong fibre-orientation dependence of the spectral response when such LPGs are subjected to dynamic bending, which provided an opportunity to realize curvature measurement with direction recognition.

We report >13 MHz/mW pump power efficiency in increasing the repetition rate of passive harmonic mode-locking by engineering the soliton pulse energy in Er fiber lasers incorporating carbon nanotube saturable absorber. Stable pulses with a ∼5 GHz repetition rate and 40 dB of super-mode suppression are demonstrated with only ∼400 mW pump power in a single-clad fiber laser.

Chronic lung allograft dysfunction (CLAD) remains the major obstacle to long-term survival following lung transplantation (LuTx). Morphologically CLAD is defined by obliterative remodelling of the small airways (bronchiolitis obliterans, BO) as well as a more recently described collagenous obliteration of alveoli with elastosis summarised as alveolar fibroelastosis (AFE). Both patterns are not ...

Detailed experimental characterization of a laser‐clad metal matrix composite (MMC) consisting hard tungsten carbide particles embedded in comparatively soft nickel‐based is provided. Special focus the investigations placed on relationship between microstructure as‐deposited reinforcing and their hardness. Therefore, thermally induced dissolution carbides caused by laser deposition (LMD) proces...

PurposeLung transplantation outcomes are limited by chronic lung allograft dysfunction (CLAD). Infection driven loss of graft function is a common cause CLAD. Extracorporeal photopheresis (ECP) salvage therapy post with the indications broadening as experience and availability increases. The therapeutic role ECP yet to be explored in infection CLAD.MethodsA retrospective audit all transplant re...

We report on characterization of an optical fiber-based multi-parameter sensor concept combining localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) signal and interferometric sensing using a double-clad optical fiber. The sensor consists of a micro-Fabry-Perot in the form of a hemispherical stimuli-responsive hydrogel with immobilized gold nanorods on the facet of a cleaved double-clad optical fiber. T...

The present study investigates the mechanical behavior of severely plastic-deformed Cu-Al composite wires with different diameters and heat-treatments. Each holds 61 restacked copper-clad aluminum wires. bimetal composites were cold-worked up to ranging from 1 mm 3 mm, without any intermediate heat treatment. All contain hexagonal fibers a continuous copper network extended outer surface into c...

How to improve the bonding ability and quality performance of heterogeneous plates has always been one difficult problems in field high-performance composite sheet forming manufacturing. In this paper, a new manufacturing method clad plate, hard plate rolling is proposed. The hot process Al/Mg/Al slab with or without was studied. results show that shear stress direction (RD) can be transformed ...
