The aetiology, incidence and management of type II endoleaks in standard infrarenal endovascular aortic aneurysm repair is well described. Far less data is available for thoracic stent grafting. We present a rare and interesting case of a type II endoleak post thoracic aortic stenting and highlight the aberrant anatomy that can cause this phenomenon in such cases.

OBJECTIVE To evaluate the safety and feasibility of a novel stent-graft for thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) in a canine model, 9 adult hybrid dogs were used for the experiment. METHODS All animals were implanted with a novel thoracic aortic stent-graft via femoral artery. Blood sample was collected at pre-operation and 1, 2, 4, 8 and 12 weeks after implantation for hematological e...

To examine the potential of steroid hormones to serve as putative regulators of aortic cell function, we defined hormone receptor content and distribution in intact baboons. Total androgen receptor content in baboon aortic arch, thoracic arch, and abdominal aorta of young mature males was indistinguishable from that of proestrus females. However, 30% to 40% of male aortic androgen receptors wer...

BACKGROUND Arterial damage is a known complication of brucellosis, but the occurrence of a thoracic aortic pseudoaneurysm secondary to brucellosis has not been previously reported. CASE PRESENTATION A 65-year-old Chinese man presented with a pseudoaneurysm in the descending segment of the thoracic aorta that caused symptoms of chest pain and intermittent fever. He was diagnosed with a thoraci...

BACKGROUND Thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) is becoming increasingly popular due to reduced perioperative morbidity and mortality compared with open surgical repair. However, complications can occur when the left subclavian artery is involved. When performing TEVAR with left carotid-subclavian artery bypass the stent graft will extend to the left common carotid artery. We herein pres...

Thoracic aortic dissection (AD) is one of the most common aortic emergencies. It can be fatal if not promptly diagnosed and treated. Intramural hematoma (IMH) of the aorta is recognized as distinct from classic (double-barreled) AD. IMH also frequently leads to aortic emergency, which can be fatal unless rapidly diagnosed and treated. Recently, thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) has be...

We report a case of hybrid thoracic endovascular aortic repair for intercostal patch aneurysm after thoracoabdominal aortic replacement. Eighteen years ago, a 63-year-old woman with Marfan syndrome had undergone thoracoabdominal aortic replacement with reimplantation of the intercostal artery in an island fashion. Follow-up computed tomography (CT) revealed a remaining intercostal patch aneurys...

We herein present a 60 years old woman with Takayasu arteritis and an extensive thoracic aortic aneurysm who initially underwent a total aortic arch replacement. Then, in the second stage, thoracic endovascular aortic repair was performed using the elephant trunk graft as the proximal landing zone at four weeks after aortic arch repair. The postoperative course was relatively uncomplicated, but...

We describe an unusual case of Lactobacillus casei bacteraemia in a heavy dairy consumer woman, with a one month history of low grade fever and admitted to our hospital for sudden onset of severe thoracic pain due to dissection of the aortic arch and ascending aorta. The patient underwent four weeks of intravenous ampicillin (2 g every 4 hours) followed by 2 weeks of oral amoxicillin (1 g every...
