Myocardial imaging using thallium-201 was performed in patients with Kawasaki disease. In two patients whose ECGs showed ischemic changes, the scintiscan demonstrated an area with diminished radioactivity at the site corresponding to electrocardiographic localization of the infarction. Thallium-201 myocardial imaging is useful in the diagnosis of myocardial infarction not only in adults but als...

We report a successfully treated case of severe thallium intoxication that required 95 days of assisted ventilation and 224 days of hospitalization. Monitoring of the patient for 500 days by measuring thallium in whole blood, serum, and urine is documented, and the role of the laboratory and utility of the measurements are considered.

Two years after an orthotopic cardiac transplant a 28 year old man was found to have clinically significant stenosis of the right coronary artery at routine coronary angiography. This lesion was accompanied by a perfusion defect on exercise thallium scintigraphy. Percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty of the lesion improved the angiographic appearance of the stenosis and reduced the exe...

BACKGROUND Both radionuclide perfusion tracers and contractile response to dobutamine have been used to identify hibernating myocardium. The aim was to compare 201Tl (thallium) single photon emission CT (SPECT), 99mTc-tetrofosmin (tetrofosmin) SPECT, and dobutamine cine MRI for identifying regions of reversible myocardial dysfunction. METHODS AND RESULTS Thirty patients with 3-vessel coronary...

Thallium-201 myocardial scintigraphy was performed in patients with congenital heart defects to determine whether, by quantification of right ventricular isotope uptake, one could assess the degree of right ventricular hypertrophy and so predict the level of right ventricular pressure. A total of 24 patients ranging in age from 7 months to 30 years was studied; 18 were studied before corrective...

To determine whether the severity of thallium-201 scintigraphic defects present within hours of acute myocardial infarction (MI) could he used to predict subsequent mortality, thallium-201 imaging was performed within 15 hours of the onset of symptoms in 42 patients with acute MI. Patients with pulmonary edema or shock were excluded. The extent of perfusion defect was determined in three views ...

BACKGROUND Previous studies showed that thallium scintigraphy and dobutamine echocardiography were accurate, noninvasive ways of predicting contractile recovery after revascularization in patients with left ventricular (LV) dysfunction. However, the prognostic impact of such methods remains uncertain. METHODS AND RESULTS We prospectively studied 137 consecutive patients with coronary disease ...

PURPOSE Late enhancement magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was compared with thallium-201 rest-redistribution single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) in patients with reduced left ventricular (LV) function and prior myocardial infarction (MI). BACKGROUND Hyperenhancement on contrast cardiac MRI using gadolinium diethylenetriamine pentaacetic acid (Gd-DTPA) has been reported to ident...

The relative sensitivity and specificity of individual and combined noninvasive tests to detect coronary heart disease were evaluated in 75 patients with chest pain admitted for cardiac catheterization and coronary arteriography. Of the 75 patients, 56 had coronary heart disease. Exercise-induced ST-segment abnormalities (>1 mm) were found in 58%. In contrast, computer-processed exercise thalli...

OBJECTIVE In the chronic phase of myocardial infarction, the relation between myocardial recovery and infarct related artery status remains unclear. The spontaneous changes in rest-redistribution thallium defect size were prospectively studied over six months in 52 patients with chronic Q wave myocardial infarction. DESIGN Changes in rest thallium defect size, thallium uptake in the infarct a...
