Neural coding for texture features of visual objects was investigated in monkey inferior temporal cortex by inactivating intrinsic GABAergic inhibition. The inactivation enabled a substantial number of cells to respond to originally ineffective texture pattern that had a particular feature distinct from the originally effective pattern, or to ineffective texture and non-texture stimuli that pos...

Perceptual consistency is important in many computer vision applications. Unfortunately, except for color, computational features and similarity measurements for other visual features are not necessarily consistent with human's perception. This paper addresses three critical issues regarding perceptually consistent texture analysis: (1) development of perceptual texture space, (2) assessment of...

Surface texturing is used to increase hydrodynamic pressure and reduce friction and wear between parallel sliding surfaces in a variety of applications. The shape, geometry, and density of the patterned microtexture features play a key role in the tribological performance of such textured slider bearings. Lubrication models are used to predict the load-carrying capacity, friction coefficient, a...

This paper proposes to use ETM+ multispectral data and panchromatic band as well as texture features derived from the panchromatic band for land cover classification. Four texture features including one ‘internal texture’ and three GLCM based textures namely correlation, entropy, and inverse different moment were used in combination with ETM+ multispectral data. Two data sets involving combinat...

The discrimination ability of four different methods for texture computation in ERS SAR imagery is examined and compared. Feature selection methodology and discriminant analysis are applied to find the optimal combination of texture features. By combining features derived from different texture models, the classification accuracy increased significantly.

Color and texture are the important features used in Content-based image retrieval (CBIR) systems. CBIR is a process that searches and retrieves images from large image databases. To perform this operation, CBIR requires color, texture and shape features of images. In this paper, color and texture features of images are considered. First order statistics and run-length characteristics of images...

Texture is an essential factor for human aesthetic perception. We investigate the relationship between computational texture features and the perceived and aesthetic properties of visual textures, obtained from a psychological experiment. We use linear feature selection and neural networks to extract a set of 8 texture features which are capable of predicting 6 perceived and aesthetic properties.

PURPOSE To evaluate the association of computed tomography (CT) texture features of locally advanced rectal cancer with neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (CRT) response and disease-free survival (DFS). METHODS AND FINDINGS The institutional review board approved this retrospective study. 95 patients who received neoadjuvant CRT, followed by surgery, for locally advanced rectal cancer were include...

In this paper, texture analysis based on wavelet transformations is elaborated. The paper is meant as a practical guideline through some aspects of a wavelet-based texture analysis task. The following aspects of the problem are discussed: discrete and continuous wavelet decompositions, texture features for grey-level textures, extensions to colour texture and rotation-invariant features, and cl...

Saliency detection is a well researched problem in computer vision. In previous work, most of the effort is spent on manually devising a saliency measure. Instead we propose a simple algorithm that uses a dataset with manually marked salient objects to learn to detect saliency. Building on the recent success of segmentation-based approaches to object detection, our saliency detection is based o...
