Efficient aerobic oxidative methyl esterification of primary alcohols has been achieved with a heterogeneous catalyst consisting of 1 mol % Pd/charcoal (5 wt %) in combination with bismuth(III) nitrate and tellurium metal. The Bi and Te additives significantly increase the reaction rate, selectivity, and overall product yields. This readily accessible catalyst system exhibits a broad substrate ...
We investigate the dynamics of coherent optical phonons in tellurium after high-density excitation with femtosecond laser pulses. The data show a continuous redshift of the phonon frequency with increasing excitation density. Experiments with double-pulse excitation prove that the observed frequency shift is of purely electronic origin. We demonstrate that coherent phonons allow monitoring the ...
We report on the first observation of the emission of electromagnetic radiation from coherent lattice vibrations in a semiconductor. Coherent optical phonons are excited by ultrashort laser pulses in singlecrystal tellurium. THz frequency radiation emitted by the Dember-field-driven phonons is detected by time-resolved THz-emission spectroscopy. The measurements are complemented by optical pump...
In the title compound, [TeBr(4)(C(22)H(23)OP)]·CH(3)CN, the Te atom exhibits a square-pyramidal coordination with an apical Te-C bond and four basal Te-Br bonds. The conformation of the aliphatic C-C-C-C chain is gauche [torsion angle = -67.7 (8)°]. A weak C-H⋯Br inter-action helps to establish the conformation. In the crystal, there is a weak secondary bonding inter-action [Te⋯N = 3.456 (11) Å...
Thin films of Tellurium dioxide (TeO2) were investigated for γ-radiation dosimetry purposes. Samples were fabricated using thin film vapour deposition technique. Thin films of TeO2 were exposed to a 60Co γ-radiation source at a dose rate of 6 Gy/min at room temperature. Absorption spectra for TeO2 films were recorded and the values of the optical band gap and energies of the localized states fo...
We present a complete characterization of the unit cell dynamics of a laser-excited tellurium crystal using femtosecond x-ray diffraction. The analysis offers a quantitative measure of the unit cell dynamics without making any assumptions on the symmetry of the excited-state motion. The results show a large-amplitude coherently excited A(1) mode quantitatively consistent with the predictions of...
We demonstrate that the atom chain structure of Te allows it to be exfoliated as ultra-thin flakes and nanowires. Atomic force microscopy of exfoliated Te shows that thicknesses of 1-2 nm and widths below 100 nm can be exfoliated with this method. The Raman modes of exfoliated Te match those of bulk Te, with a slight shift (4 cm-1) due to a hardening of the A1 and E modes. Polarized Raman spect...
Currently, thirty-eight palladium, thirty-eight antimony, thirty-nine tellurium, thirty-eight iodine, and forty xenon isotopes have been observed and the discovery of these isotopes is discussed here. For each isotope a brief synopsis of the first refereed publication, including the production and identification method, is presented. ∗Corresponding author. Email address: [email protected]...
The tellurium atom in the title bis-ethynyl telluride, Te(C(9)H(7))(2) or C(18)H(14)Te, is located on a crystallographic twofold axis, the C-Te-C angle being 92.23 (15)°. The dihedral angle between the rings is 87.27 (7)°. In the crystal structure, mol-ecules are connected in chains parallel to the b axis and mediated by C-H⋯π inter-actions.
