In the crystal structure of the title compound, C(14)H(17)NO(4), obtained by the reaction of N-benzoxycarbonyl-l-valine, paraformaldehyde and 4-methyl-benzene-sulfonic acid, mol-ecules are linked by C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, generating linear chains parallel to the a axis. C-H⋯π inter-actions of stacked benzene rings also provide stability for the crystal structure.

A series of backbone modified and sulfonic acid replacement analogs of our topical, clinical candidate (iii) were synthesized. Their antimicrobial activities and aqueous stabilities at pH 4 and pH 7 were determined, and has led us to identify quaternary ammonium N,N-dichloroamines as a new class of topical antimicrobial agents.

Diastereopure substituted diaziridines from simple ketones, aldehydes and amines are here reported. These important chemical scaffolds are obtained in the presence of a weak inorganic base and hydroxylamine O-sulfonic acid (HOSA). This method introduces three stereocenters in one step to provide a wide variety of substituted diaziridines with high yields and diastereoselectivities.

An efficient one-pot synthesis of N-aryl[3,4-d]pyrazolopyrimidines in good yield and under mild reaction conditions is described. By exploiting electron-deficient hydroxylamines, the substituted oxime products were formed with very high E-diastereoselectivity. The key step utilizes a cyclization reaction upon an oxime derived from hydroxylamine-O-sulfonic acid to form the N-N bond of the product.
