Background: Open Bankart surgery is the main treatment procedure in patients with recurrent anterior shoulder dislocation, especially in cases with glenoid bone defect. The goal of this study was to determine the outcomes after open Bankart surgery in cases of recurrent anterior shoulder dislocation with glenoid bone defects and concomitant Hill-Sachs lesions. Methods: Between 2006 and 2010,...

A case of massive osteolysis of the skull and its histology is described. Removal of the bone defect with a margin of normal bone and covering of the defect by cranioplasty is advised and may arrest the disease.

Acalvaria defined as absent skull bones, is an extremely rare congenital anomaly with only a handful of cases reported in literature. In this report we presented a male newborn case of acalvaria referred to our hospital (Shahid Motahari hospital of Urmia, Iran). The condition per se has been described as having high mortality rate. Very few living cases, less than ten, have been reported till now.

BACKGROUND Bone tissue engineering requires materials that are biocompatible, mechanically suited for bone function, integrated with the host skeleton, and support osteoinduction of the implanted cells for new bone formation. The aim of this study was to compare the osteogenic potential of xenograft with hydroxyapatite/β- tricalcium phosphate (HA/β-TCP) scaffold. METHODS New Zealand rabbits (...

INTRODUCTION The aim of the study was to propose and evaluate textural entropy as a parameter for bone healing assessment. MATERIAL AND METHODS One hundred and twenty radiographs with loss of bone architecture were investigated (a bone defect was circumscribed - ROI DEF). A reference region (ROI REF) of the same surface area as the ROI DEF was placed in a field distant from the defect, where ...

Large bone defect treatment represents a great challenge due to the difficulty of functional and esthetic reconstruction. Tissue-engineered bone grafts created by in vitro manipulation of bioscaffolds, seed cells, and growth factors have been considered potential treatments for bone defect reconstruction. However, a significant gap remains between experimental successes and clinical translation...

Secreted frizzled-related protein (sFRP)-3 is a negative regulator of Wnt signaling in human mesenchymal stem cells (hMSCs). The present study investigated the effects sFRP-3 on osteogenic differentiation by assessing osteogenic gene expression in hMSCs in vitro and by examining bone regeneration in a rat bone defect model. sFRP-3 treatment induced osteogenic differentiation in hMSCs as determi...

The authors report on their experience with bone defect treatment following surgery of jaw-bone cysts. This is based on the use of cadaveric ground spongiosis saturated with tetracycline and metronidazol solution. The study shows the above mentioned material is very suitable for bone defect therapy, and cost effective. The results were verified by clinical and X-ray examination.

CD47, also called integrin-associated protein, plays a critical role in the innate immune response and is an atypical member of the immunoglobulin superfamily that interacts with and activates beta3 integrins. beta3 integrin(-/-) mice have defective platelet and osteoclast function and are protected from bone metastasis. The role of CD47 in skeletal homeostasis and bone metastasis has not been ...

Bone has a capability to repair itself when it is fractured. Repair involves the generation of intermediatetissues, such as fibrous connective tissue, cartilage and woven bone, before final bone healing can occur. Theprocess of cartilage-to-bone transition (CBT) is a key for the achievement of rigid bone healing duringfracture repair. We tested this potential for elastic cartilage using a long ...
