The energy spectra of cosmic-ray low-energy antiprotons ( *p's) and protons ( p's) have been measured by BESS in 1999 and 2000, during a period covering reversal at the solar magnetic field. Based on these measurements, a sudden increase of the *p/p flux ratio following the solar magnetic field reversal was observed, and it generally agrees with a drift model of the solar modulation.

The global processes that determine cosmic ray modulation are reviewed. The essential elements of the theory which describes cosmic ray behavior in the heliosphere are summarized, and a series of discussions is presented which compare the expectations of this theory with observations of the spatial and temporal behavior of both galactic cosmic rays and the anomalous component; the behavior of c...

Radio emission from cosmic ray air showers has the potential to become an additional, cost-effective observing technique for cosmic ray research, being largely complementary to the well-established particle detector and air fluorescence techniques. We present Monte Carlo simulatios of radio emission from extensive air showers in the scheme of coherent geosynchrotron radiation from electron-posi...

The local interstellar spectrum of cosmic ray electrons is derived by correcting the data from balloon and space measurements for the solar modulation effect. The resulting spectrum, after the renormalization of some experimental data set, can be fitted with a single power law from about 3 GeV to 2 TeV with spectral index γ = 3.42 ± 0.02. On the other hand, at low energies the measurements by C...

A concise review of the status of research on short-lived nuclei is presented. The importance of these nuclei is very great in spite of the fact that they are essentially absent today (except for cosmic ray products). The significance of these nuclei for understanding broader cosmic problems is outlined and it is shown that they are a key to the earliest processes in solar system formation and ...

In this article, the author proposes to consider a link between infant mortality rate (IMR) and galactic cosmic radiation (CR) density. The periodical increase in solar activity increases the effect of the magnetic field of the sun, and therefore weakens galactic cosmic rays hitting the Earth's surface. As a result, embryos in their early stages of development may be less exposed to high-energy...

We examine the transport of cosmic-ray protons and anitprotons from local interstellar space through the interplanetary medium to Earth and discuss the resulting e†ects on the low-energy antiproton/proton ratio at 1 AU. We Ðnd that the antiproton/proton ratio at energies above D3 GeV is a useful diagnostic of cosmic-ray transport in the Galaxy. However, at energies below D1 GeV the expected rat...

Gamma ray astronomy at energies 1011 1013 eV, which are strictly related to the identification and study of the cosmic ray acceleration sites, is the main scientific goal of the ARGO-YBJ experiment. The detector, which is now being assembled in Tibet (China) at 4300 m a.s.l., is a full coverage Extensive Air Shower array consisting of a carpet of Resistive Plate Chambers covering a surface of a...
