The bacterial endophytic communities residing within roots of maize (Zea mays L.) plants cultivated by a sustainable management in soils from the Quechua maize belt (Peruvian Andes) were examined using tags pyrosequencing spanning the V4 and V5 hypervariable regions of the 16S rRNA. Across four replicate libraries, two corresponding to sequences of endophytic bacteria from long time maize-culti...

Pseudomonas sp. LFM046 is a medium-chain-length polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHAMCL) producer capable of using various carbon sources (carbohydrates, organic acids, and vegetable oils) and was first isolated from sugarcane cultivation soil in Brazil. The genome sequence was found to be 5.97 Mb long with a G+C content of 66%.

Epidemics of soil-borne plant disease are characterized by patchiness because of restricted dispersal of inoculum. The density of inoculum within disease patches depends on a sequence comprising local amplification during the parasitic phase followed by dispersal of inoculum by cultivation during the intercrop period. The mechanisms that control size, shape, and persistence have received very l...

In the Plain of Reeds (Mekong delta, Viet Nam), water and soil characteristics show a high temporal variability which can be explained by changes in relative soil/water levels. Acid, aluminium and iron concentrations in canal water increase (pH drops from 6 to less than 3.5) when the annual river ̄ood water recedes and the drainage/ ̄ushing of the acid sulphate soils begins. The high intra-annua...

While bitter manioc has been one of the most important staple crops in the central Amazon for thousands of years, there have been few studies of its cultivation in the fertile whitewater landscapes of this region. Anthropological research on bitter manioc cultivation in the Amazon has focused almost exclusively on long-fallow shifting cultivation in marginal upland areas of low soil fertility. ...

This study features a survey of the content of heavy metals (Pb, Cd, Cr, As, Hg and Cu) in root and cultivation soils of Panax notoginseng (P. notoginseng), carried out in China's Yunnan Province. The average contents of Pb, Cd, Cr, As, Hg, and Cu in the soil were 61.6, 0.4, 102.4, 57.1, 0.3, and 35.1 mg·kg-1, respectively. The heavy metals' pollution indexes can be ranked as follows: As > Cd >...

The aim of this study was to evaluate soil properties changes in a soil toposequence series in Khuzestan province. Twelve soil profiles were dug in north to south direction in this province, according to the changes of the slope in Karoon’s alluvial deposits. The results showed that soil texture regularly changes to heavier form from north to south. It was slightly of redoxomorphic featur...

The analysis of the denaturated gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE) of the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplified 16S rDNA fingerprints demonstrated a high diversity of bacterial communities in the soils from the three study sites at the surface and subsurface soil layers. The undegraded site possessed maximum number of 16S rDNA fingerprints than the degraded and undegraded sites at both soi...

The effect of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) on industrial tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill. cv. Isma F1) cultivated in North-Eastern Algeria was evaluated under greenhouse and field conditions in a vertisol soil intended for the cultivation of industrial tomato. In the greenhouse, a commercial AMF inoculum and native fungal isolates consisting of Funneliformis mosseae and Septoglomus c...
