We present a case of male patient, who was referred to our department because of acute intestinal obstruction, which was the initial clinical symptom of primary lung cancer. The abdominal computed tomography (CT) prior to the emergency operation showed small intestinal obstruction and metastases to both adrenal glands. The patient underwent an emergency abdominal exploratory laparotomy, that co...
BACKGROUND Enterolithiasis of the small bowel is a rare phenomenon in humans although it has been frequently described in equines. Primary enteroliths have been described including those occurring secondary to conditions like Crohn's disease, small bowel diverticula, tuberculous or postoperative strictures, and blind loops but those occurring in an otherwise normal gut are exceedingly rare. Acute appendicitis is a common surgical problem however the diagnosis is often overlooked when it presents as a small bowel obstruction. In this report we present two cases of elderly patients who presented with small bowel obstruction and raised inflammatory markers. Both patients were successfully treated with a laparotomy, adhesiolysis and appendicectomy and went on to make a good recovery.

Abdomen was distended and tender at the right and left lower quadrants. Bowel movements were decreased, and rectum was empty on digital examination. Upright plain films of the abdomen revealed multi...
Ingestion of a foreign body is a rare cause of small bowel obstruction. Ingested foreign bodies will usually pass without clinical sequelae, however on occasion can contribute to significant morbidity. Here we present an unusual case of small bowel obstruction and perforation as a result of accidental ingestion of a nectarine pit.
Internal hernias are rare causes of small bowel obstruction, and one such internal hernia is the paracecal hernia. We report a case of a small bowel obstruction related to a paracecal hernia in which a preoperative diagnosis was made on computed tomography. A laparotomy was performed for definitive diagnosis and treatment. The surgery achieved a good outcome.
The most common cause of intestinal obstruction in children is postsurgical adhesions. Internal herniation through the falciform ligament is very rare, but frequently causes small bowel obstruction when it occurs. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case report regarding large bowel obstruction associated with midgut malrotation through the falciform ligament in a child.
