The ability to focus one's attention underlies success in many everyday tasks, but voluntary attention cannot be sustained for extended periods of time. In the laboratory, sustained-attention failure is manifest as a decline in perceptual sensitivity with increasing time on task, known as the vigilance decrement. We investigated improvements in sustained attention with training (approximately 5...

Introduction: Given that the satisfaction from educational facilities and feel comfort and relax in classroom can affect on learning, focus and increase productivity, so the necessity for a questionnaire with appropriate validity and reliability to determine students' satisfaction from training chairs has been felt. therefor the aim of this study was to design and validate of students' satisfac...

The performance sensitivity of Albus' CMAC network was studied for the scenario in which faults are introduced into the adjustable weights after training has been accomplished. It was found that fault sensitivity was reduced with increased generalization when "loss of weight" faults were considered, but sensitivity was increased for "saturated weight" faults.

One of the well known risks of large margin training methods, such as boosting and support vector machines (SVMs), is their sensitivity to outliers. These risks are normally mitigated by using a soft margin criterion, such as hinge loss, to reduce outlier sensitivity. In this paper, we present a more direct approach that explicitly incorporates outlier suppression in the training process. In pa...

In treatment settings, where a wide range of personality and individual diversity is to be expected, psychological variables such as intelligence and empathy enhance nurses’ amenability and affect their moral sensitivity. The aim of this research was to investigate the relationship between nurses’ personal intelligence and empathy, and their moral sensitivity. This was a descriptive-analytic an...

UNLABELLED This study investigated the effects of brief mindfulness meditation training on ratings of painful electrical stimulation. In Experiment 1, we used a 3-day (20 min/d) mindfulness meditation intervention and measured pain ratings before and after the intervention. Participants' numerical ratings of pain to "low" and "high" electrical stimulation significantly decreased after meditatio...

To evaluate the effects of perceptual learning on contrast-sensitivity function and visual acuity in adult observers with amblyopia, 23 anisometropic amblyopes with a mean age of 19.3 years were recruited and divided into three groups. Subjects in Group I were trained in grating detection in the amblyopic eye near pre-training cut-off spatial frequency. Group II received a training regimen of r...

Rhythmic abilities vary widely in the general population, but little is known about the factors that give rise to this variability. One factor may be musical training. Another may be differences in auditory short-term memory (STM) capacity (the amount of auditory information that can be remembered over a few seconds). Finally, as rhythms with temporal regularity (e.g., a beat) are more easily r...

Myostatin is a secreted protein that acts as a potent inhibitor of skeletal muscle growth. Inactivation of myostatin increases muscle mass and decreases insulin resistance. The aim of this study was to determine if the improvement in insulin resistance after resistance training is associated with a decline in serum levels of myostatin. A sample of 19 obese-overweight women (age= 23.2±3.4 yr, bo...

Background and objectives: Previous investigations have shown that physical activity can improve insulin sensitivity and body composition by reducing the concentration of inflammatory biomarkers. The study aimed at evaluating effects of eight weeks of resistance training and high-intensity interval training on adropin, blood glucose markers, and body composition in overweight females. Methods:...
