How can we encourage greater energy efficiency? Estimates that take account of behavioral plasticity—the ease with which actions can be taken—indicate that the United States could reduce overall greenhouse gas emissions by 7% if households adopted simple and money-saving efficiency actions (1). However, most households are not taking these actions despite the benefits for the environment and fo...
Energy is one of the factors used in most economic activities. The economic security of most countries depends on secure access to energy. Therefore, the production and consumption of energy and its optimal use are of particular importance. The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between energy consumption and economic growth in the framework of nonlinear self-regressi...
Programmable stiff sheets with a single low-energy folding motion have been sought in fields ranging from the ancient art of origami to modern meta-materials research. Despite such attention, only two extreme classes of crease patterns are usually studied; special Miura-Ori-based zero-energy patterns, in which crease folding requires no sheet bending, and random patterns with high-energy foldin...
Address correspondence to [email protected] ABSTRACT In this article, an introduction is presented about the energy harvesting technologies that have potential for powering nanosystems. Our discussion mainly focuses on the approaches other than the well-known solar cell and thermoelectrics. We mainly introduce the piezoelectric nanogenerators developed using aligned ZnO nanowire arrays. This is...
ai−d πd ∫ dk1 d k2 [(k1 − k)2]a1 [(k2 − k)2]a2 [(k1 − k2)]3(k 2) a4(k2 1) a5 (1.1) in d-dimensional Euclidean momentum space. It has a long and interesting history. For many years, most of the information we had about perturbative quantum field theory was coming (directly or indirectly) from this integral. All massless three-loop self-energy integrals (with integer indices) reduce to 6 master i...
Energy transfer between a naphthalene-dipeptide and either a hosted dansyl acceptor or a co-assembling anthracene-dipeptide acceptor occurs on formation of a hydrogel by decreasing the pH.
In this paper, we develop the optimal minimum-energy scheduler for the dynamic online joint allocation of the task sizes, computing rates, communication rates and communication powers in virtualized Networked Data Centers (NetDCs) that operates under hard per-job delay-constraints. The referred NetDC’s infrastructure is composed by multiple frequency-scalable Virtual Machines (VMs), that are in...
Dynamic networks, e.g. Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs), call for self-healing routing protocols to tolerate topological changes imposed by node mobility. Moreover, emerging time-critical MANET applications such as disaster response and rescue, and battlefield operations, require support for real-time, reliable data streaming, while maintaining energy efficiency. However, most of the energy-effi...
We propose an energy-aware self-optimizing memory controller in which DRAM energy management is integral to the command scheduler. Experiments conducted on a 8-core CMP model show that, for the parallel applications considered, our scheduler reduces memory’s energy-delay squared Et by 18% while delivering a 5% speedup with respect to a state-of-the-art power-aware solution.
We address the effects of chain connectivity on electrostaticfluctuations in polyelectrolyte solutions using a field-theoretic, renormalizedGaussian fluctuation (RGF) theory. As in simple electrolyte solutions [Z.-G. Wang,Phys. Rev. E 81, 021501 (2010)], the RGF provides a unified theory forelectrostatic fluctuations, accounting for both dielectric and charge correlationeffects in terms of the ...
