A new copper-catalyzed oxidative ring closure of ethynyl anilides with diaryliodonium salts was developed for the highly modular construction of benzoxazines bearing a fully substituted exo double bond. The oxidative transformation includes an unusual 6-exo-dig cyclization step with the formation of C-O and C-C bonds.

The exceptional versatility of the 1,2,3-triazole ring in tridentate carbonyl rhenium complexes has been explored starting from a "click chemistry" unexpected product obtained from the spontaneous copper to rhenium transmetalation, which opens the way to successive transformation to C-triazolyl and triazolylidene mesoionic carbene.

A general and highly efficient synthesis of cyclic sulfones based on ring-closing metathesis has been developed. The synthetic utility of the resulting cyclic sulfones was demonstrated by their participation in stereoselective Diels-Alder reactions and transformation to cyclic dienes by the Ramberg-Bäcklund reaction.

A group of flavones, isoflavones, flavanones, and chalcones was subjected to small-scale biotransformation studies with the Gram-negative Stenotrophomonas maltophilia KB2 strain in order to evaluate the capability of this strain to transform flavonoid compounds and to investigate the relationship between compound structure and transformation type. The tested strain transformed flavanones and ch...

Three novel spiroketals were prepared by a one-pot transformation of 6-O-methyl-9(E)-hydroxyiminoerythronolide A. We present the formation of a [4.5]spiroketal moiety within the macrolide lactone ring, but also the unexpected formation of a 10-C=11-C double bond and spontaneous change of stereochemistry at position 8-C. As a result, a thermodynamically stable structure was obtained. The structu...

The Painlevé integrability of the 2+1 dimensional AKNS system is proved. Using the standard truncated Painlevé expansion which corresponds to a special Bäcklund transformation, some special types of the localized excitations like the solitoff solutions, multi-dromion solutions and multi-ring soliton solutions are obtained. An unprecedented cascade reaction of isocyanide and methyleneindolinone has been established, which represents a novel and different reaction mode. This present transformation involves the ring-opening of methyleneindolinone and the construction of two other new rings simultaneously in an atom-economic manner.

The natural transformation Ξ from L–theory to the Tate cohomology of Z/2 acting on K–theory (constructed in [WW2] and [WW3]) commutes with external products. Corollary: The Tate cohomology of Z/2 acting on the K–theory of any ring with involution is a generalized Eilenberg–MacLane spectrum, and it is 4–periodic.

The first asymmetric ring-expansion carbonylation of meso-epoxides to β-lactones is reported. Two structurally diverse chiral Cr(III) chloro complexes in conjunction with Co(2)(CO)(8) were shown to be competent catalytic systems for this transformation, displaying significant levels of asymmetric induction of up to 56% ee.

[structure: see text] A novel C(27)N(3)-type pentacyclic Lycopodium alkaloid, lycoperine A (1) consisting of two octahydroquinoline rings and a piperidine ring, was isolated from the club moss Lycopodium hamiltonii. The structure and relative stereochemistry were elucidated on the basis of 2D NMR data and chemical transformation. Lycoperine A (1) exhibited an inhibitory activity against acetylc...
