To examine the mediation of host–predator interaction by a parasite, we studied the three-level interactions among a host plant, a root hemiparasitic plant, and their common predator, a generalist snail herbivore. The host species, Trifolium repens, is able to synthesize cyanogenic glucosides that have a significant role in plant herbivore resistance. Some T. repens populations are polymorphic ...
691 The genus Dirofilaria includes various species that are natural parasites of dogs, cats, foxes and wild mammals. Dirofilaria immitis is the species occurring in the right ventricle and pulmonary artery of the dogs. Praetorblissus mexicanus is described as a new species of Blissidae. This species represents the first record of the genus for Mexico and expands its northern limit of distribution. The species was collected in a pine area in the state of Oaxaca associated with the bamboo Chusquea repens. A key is included to separate all the species in the genus.
We report a human case of ocular Dirofilaria infection in a traveler returning to Austria from India. Analysis of mitochondrial sequences identified the worm as Candidatus Dirofilaria hongkongensis, a close relative of Dirofilaria repens, which was only recently described in Hong Kong and proposed as a new species.
Stress management is considered as an important factor in nowadays landscape. Therefore this research was conducted using a factorial experiment based on a randomized completely design with regulated deficit irrigation at four levels (100, 75, 50, and 25% of lawn irrigation requirement) and three replicates to evaluate some biochemical and physiological traits on four groundcover plants (Lolium...
