324 The Learning Curves of Major Laparoscopic and Robotic Procedures in Urology: A Systematic Review
Abstract Aim Urology has been at the forefront of adopting laparoscopic and robot-assisted techniques to improve patient outcomes. Defining learning curves for these procedures enables assessment trainee performances relative expected progress important implications in research. This systematic review aimed examine literature relating major urological robotic procedures. Method In accordance wi...
INTRODUCTION Laparoscopic partial nephrectomy has emerged as a standard of care for small renal masses. Nevertheless, there remains concern over the potential for irreversible insult to the kidney as a result of exposure to warm ischemia. We aim to investigate the utility of selective segmental arterial clamping as a means to reduce the potential for ischemic damage to a solitary kidney during ...
OBJECTIVE To report a case of GIST type retroperitoneal tumor with spontaneous rupture to the abdominal cavity causing acute abdomen secondary to hemoperitoneum. METHODS/RESULTS We report the case of an 84 year-old man with history of BPH and chronic atrial fibrillation. He presented to the Emergency Department with diffuse abdominal pain, syncope and accompanying vegetative symptoms. Diagnos...
We present herein the case of a patient with solitary metachronous contralateral adrenal metastasis from renal cell cancer. The patient had undergone left radical nephrectomy and adrenalectomy for localized renal cancer 7 years previously. Laparoscopic transperitoneal right adrenalectomy was performed. The postoperative period was uneventful. Histology showed right adrenal metastasis from renal...
The authors report a case of renal cell carcinoma in a right malrotated (horizontal axis) kidney. The patient was treated by hand-assisted laparoscopic radical nephrectomy. This is the first report of a horizontal axis malrotated kidney with renal cell carcinoma.
Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) in autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) is very rare. Only 11 cases of bilateral RCC in ADPKD have been reported since 1954. Herein, we present a 58-year-old male who received laparoscopic bilateral radical nephrectomy for bilateral RCC with different cell variants in ADPKD and end-stage renal disease under regular hemodialysis.
A prospective evaluation of 3-D laparoscopic transperitoneal radical nephrectomy for large renal tumors (clinical stage T2N0M0): A single-centre, single-surgeon experience Anup Kumar, Niraj Kumar, Gaurav Kumar, Mikir Patel, Pankaj Gupta Department of Urology & Renal Transplant,VMMC & Safdarjung Hospital, New Delhi, India
We report an unusual case of pancreatic fistula after transperitoneal laparoscopic left radical nephrectomy. A 43 years old male patient presented with severe abdominal pain and abdominal distension 71 day after the surgery. Computerized tomography (CT) demonstrated a large fluid collection in the operated renal fossa. The treatment, which comprised percutaneous drainage led to a closure of the...
Fat necrosis (FN) is a common surgical complication after breast and plastic surgery procedures involving reconstruction and tissue flaps with an incidence reported ranging from 10 to 39%.1 Histologically, FN is described as a focus of lipid-laden macrophages and chronic inflammationwith a foreign body giant cell reaction.2 FN in breasts has a variable clinical presentation that can range from ...
A 59-year-old man with a history of prostate cancer and clear-cell renal-cell carcinoma of the kidney underwent a combined robot-assisted laparoscopic partial nephrectomy and radical prostatectomy. We describe the initial report of a combined robot-assisted operation for both procedures concurrently with a port strategy allowing reuse of ports.
