An asymmetric Claisen rearrangement using Oppolzer’s camphorsultam was developed. Under thermal conditions, a geraniol-derived substrate underwent the rearrangement with good stereoselectivity. The absolute configuration of the newly formed all-carbon quaternary stereocenter was confirmed by the total synthesis of (+)-bakuchiol from the rearrangement product.
BACKGROUND BCL6 gene rearrangement is the most frequent chromosomal abnormality in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, a malignancy characterized by genetic heterogeneity and wide variability in clinical outcome. The prognostic significance of BCL6 rearrangement has not been evaluated in the context of rituximab therapy for diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. We analyzed the effect of the BCL6 rearrangem...
The gene RUNX1 at chromosome 21q22 encodes the alpha subunit of Core binding factor (CBF), a heterodimeric transcription factor involved in the development of normal hematopoiesis. Translocations of RUNX1 are seen in several types of leukemia with at least 21 identified partner genes. The cryptic t(7;21)(p22;q22) rearrangement involving the USP42 gene appears to be a specific and recurrent cyto...
Hodgkin-Reed-Sternberg (H-RS) cells are clonal B cells carrying Ig gene rearrangements. However, in situ hybridization methods failed to demonstrate Ig gene expression in H-RS cells of classical Hodgkin's disease (HD). Because somatic mutations rendering potentially functional Ig gene rearrangements nonfunctional were detected in some cases of the disease, it was speculated that H-RS cells in c...
No constant genetic alteration has yet been unravelled in T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T-ALL), and, to date, the most frequent alteration, the SIL-TAL1 deletion, is found in approximately 20% of cases. Recently, two genes have been identified, the multiple tumor-suppressor gene 1 (MTS1) and multiple tumor-suppressor gene 2 (MTS2), whose products inhibit cell cycle progression. A charact...
Nano silica-H2SO4 is an efficient and mild catalysis system for the regeneration of aldehyde from aldoximes. Ketoximes are converted to amides by Beckmann rearrangement in the presence of nano silica-H2SO4. The reactions are carried out in solvent-free conditions under microwave irradiation (600 W) within 50-120 sec in good yields.
Despite daily perfecting both the composite material and light sources, the polymerization shrinkage of composite materials still remains a significant problem that compromises longevity of composite fillings. On average, the composite materials shrink 1-5% volume (1). Total shrinkage can be divided into preand postgelation phase. During the pregelation phase, the composite material is not comp...
The present treatise aims at deriving a general framework for the thermodynamics of open systems typically encountered in chemoor biomechanical applications. Due to the fact that an open system is allowed to constantly gain or lose mass, the classical conservation law of mass has to be recast into a balance equation balancing the rate of change of the current mass with a possible inor outflux o...
T cell development occurs in the thymus and is critically dependent on productive TCRβ rearrangement and pre-TCR expression in DN3 cells. The requirement for pre-TCR expression results in the arrest of thymocytes at the DN3 stage (β checkpoint), which is uniquely permissive for V-DJβ recombination; only cells expressing pre-TCR survive and develop beyond the DN3 stage. In addition, the requirem...
The behavior of nuclear pre-mRNA-binding proteins after their nuclease and/or salt-induced release from RNA was investigated. After RNase digestion or salt extraction, two proteins that initially exist as tetramers (A2)(3)B1 in isolated heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein (hnRNP) complexes quantitatively reassociated to form regular helical filaments ranging in length from 100 nm to >10 mic...
