ABSTRACT Background: Pyogenic Spinal Epidural Abscess (PSEA) is difficult to diagnose and can have devastating consequences. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) has high sensitivity specificity, which are further increased with the use of contrast. There several classifications vertebral infectious processes, emphasis on spondylodiscitis. Objective: To analyze morphological parameters their reprod...

Hypertrophic osteoarthropathy (HOA) is a systemic disorder primarily affecting the bones, joints, and soft tissues and developing in association with another disease process. Acute pyogenic pulmonary processes (empyema, lung abscess) are occasionally accompanied by transient HOA, but reversible HOA has not previously been reported in the setting of PCP in AIDS.

A nosocomial pyogenic liver abscess caused by an extended-spectrum beta-lactamase-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae isolate presented in a man with adenocarcinoma of the stomach. The K. pneumoniae strain isolated from blood and liver aspirate cultures after antibiotic therapy for recurrent bacteremia was resistant to all extended-spectrum beta-lactams except imipenem and differed from K. pneumoni...

We retrospectively reviewed medical records to identify the factors that affect the results of culture in patients with pyogenic vertebral osteomyelitis. In multivariate analysis, the presence of paravertebral abscess was associated with positive results of microbiologic culture. Prior antibiotic exposure, especially of longer duration, was strongly associated with negative results.

Pyogenic infections of the sacroiliac joint are rare and usually caused by Staphylococcus aureus. We describe a case of a 16 year-old gymnast who was subsequently diagnosed with Salmonella mbandaka sacroiliac osteomyelitis with adjacent psoas abscess and hepatitis one week after returning from a holiday in Crete. This case highlights a rare presentation of a common travel-associated foodborne i...

We report a case of pyogenic liver abscess caused by community-acquired Klebsiella quasipneumoniae subsp. quasipneumoniae. The infecting isolate had 2 prominent features of hypervirulent K. pneumoniae strains: the capsular polysaccharide synthesis region for K1 serotype and the integrative and conjugative element ICEKp1, which encodes the virulence factors yersiniabactin, salmochelin, and RmpA.
