The retinoblastoma (Rb) gene product is a prototypic tumor suppressor. Mice lacking the Rb gene are not viable and die in utero at approximately 13 days of gestation. In this study, we have rescued Rb-/- prostates by grafting pelvic organ rudiments from Rb-/- mouse embryos under the renal capsule of adult male nude mouse hosts. Grafts of embryonic pelvic organs developed into functional prostat...

Sir, Almost all prostate cancers are adenocarcinoma. The age-specific mortality and absolute number of deaths from prostate cancer have been decreasing since 1993.[1] There is an almost 8:1 ratio in the incidence of prostate-specific mortality. The disease locally invades along the nerve sheath and metastasizes through lymphatic chains or blood vessels.[2] Distant metastases are common when lym...

The treatment of prostatic carcinoma, the second commonest carcinoma in the Western world, remains controversial although opinion has leaned towards oestrogens rather than orchiectomy unless the patient suffers a thrombo-embolic tendency.9-10 We report here a retrospective study of two statistically comparable groups of patients: one treated with oestrogens (Stilboestro!) the other by orchiectomy.

Granulomatous prostatitis is a rare benign inflammatory condition of prostate. It is mistaken for prostatic carcinoma. Clinically it presents as hard nodule on digital rectal examination with raised serum prostate specific antigen (PSA) levels and reduced free PSA levels. We report a rare case of non-specific granulomatous prostatitis clinically diagnosed as carcinoma prostate.

Medical therapeutics has solidly evolved in the last decades based on bright ideas and hard work. Thinking outside the box remains essential if one's idea is to make his/her specific fields move forward. Some years ago we were lucky to become part of the surgical evolution in radical prostatec-tomy; the development of laparoscopic radical prostatectomy followed by the robotic version of the pro...

We present two patients known to have prostate cancer who presented with acute cerebellar signs. The neurological deficit of the first patient was due to a paraneoplastic cerebellar manifestation and progressed, despite evidence of response of the primary prostate tumour to hormonal manipulation. The second case, resulting from a solitary cerebellar metastasis, was amenable to surgical interven...
