3 Figure 1: The conceptual basic experimental setup of this project presented in the Letter Of Intent of the HypHI project [1]. TR1 and TR2 are tracking detectors in front of a dipole magnet and TR3 is a chamber behind the magnet for tracking and charge measurements. Sci1 and Sci2 are fast plastic scintillators for TOF measurements.

In this work, we tested whether plastic scintillation (PS) is a suitable alternative to liquid scintillation (LS) and Cerenkov techniques for beta emitter detection. The main advantage of this alternative is the reduction of mixed waste produced as consequence of the measurement process. In addition, the quality parameters obtained with PS are as reliable as those obtained with LS and allow det...

The response of an array of plastic phoswich detectors to ions of 1 ≤ Z ≤ 18 has been measured from E/A=12 to 72 MeV. The detector response has been parameterized by a three parameter fit which includes both quenching and high energy delta-ray effects. The fits have a mean variation of ≤ 4% with respect to the data.

As precursor to HISPEC, the upcoming PreSPEC campaign incorporates the commissioning of the first version of the LYCCA (Lund-York-Cologne-CAlorimeter) detector system called LYCCA-0. The LYCCA detector is a Time-of-Flight (ToF), ∆E, E set-up designed to unambigiously identify nuclear reaction products by their mass A, and charge Z . For this to be possible up to masses around A = 100, the total...

A description, results and the current status of the track-finding routines developed for the Transition Radiation Detector (TRD) of the CBM experiment are presented. The trackfinding algorithm is based on the Kalman Filter and track following methods. Two different approaches have been used: a standalone TRD track-finder (using only TRD information) and an algorithm based on the information fr...

Fluorescent nuclear track detectors (FNTDs) based on Al${_2}$O${_3}$:C,Mg crystals are luminescent that can be used for dosimetry and detection of charged particles neutrons. These utilised imaging applications where a reasonably high density, approximately the order 1 $\times$ $10^4$ tracks in an area 100 $\mu$m$^2$, is required. To investigate reusability FNTDs applications, we present approa...

We describe a beta electron spectrometer for use in an upcoming experiment that will measure the beta-antineutrino correlation coefficient (a coefficient) in neutron beta decay. Electron energy is measured by a thick plastic scintillator detector. A conical array of plastic scintillator veto detectors is used to suppress events where the electron backscattered. A Monte Carlo simulation of this ...

Introduction: Radon is a colorless inert gas which decay products are the main component of natural radioactive elements that are naturally produced in under layers of earth crust by decay of radium and uranium. It enters through buildings via gaps and cracks. Radon gas decay products like alpha particle can increase the incidence of lung cancer in human. Since every person sp...
