A photofuel cell comprising two photocatalysts TiO2 and Ag-TiO2 is demonstrated. The open circuit voltage, short circuit current, and maximum electric power of the PFC were 1.59 V, 74 μA, and 14 μW, respectively. The electron flow was rectified due to the Schottky barrier between TiO2 and Ag nanoparticles.
An ultrasound-assisted, precipitation-deposition method has been developed to synthesise visible-light-responsive BiOBr-ZnFe(2)O(4) heterojunction photocatalysts. The heterojunctions with suitable BiOBr/ZnFe(2)O(4) ratios have a fascinating micro-spherical morphology and exhibit exceptional photocatalytic activity in visible-light degradation of Rhodamine B.
Porous Cu/C composites and CuO nanostructures can be easily synthesized from coordination precursors between Cu(2+) and glycine, which are obtained simply by adding ethanol as a poor solvent into a Cu(2+) and glycine solution, and verified to be potential antibacterial agents and photocatalysts.
Water-dispersible alkyne-bearing conjugated microporous poly-benzothiadiazoles were synthesized using thiol-yne chemistry to enhance water compatibility. The water compatible polymer networks were used as heterogeneous photocatalysts to generate singlet oxygen for the conversion of furoic acid to 5-hydroxy-2(5H)-furanone.
Detonated nanodiamonds (NDs) exhibit remarkable photocatalytic activity towards the hydrogen gas generation upon 532 nm laser pulse irradiation. Hydrogenation dramatically increases the quantum yield, suggesting that hydrogen-terminated sites work as electron reservoirs. NDs can also be used as effective photocatalysts to reduce graphene oxide. The resulting composites exhibit high and stable p...
A new polyazine-bridged RuRuPt trimetallic supramolecular architecture emulates the photophysical properties of the previously reported Ru2RuPt tetrametallic architecture that exhibits photoinduced charge separation. The RuRuPt complexes are more robust H2O reduction photocatalysts with enhanced stability compared to the Ru2RuPt tetrametallic analogues.
The activity of Au nanoparticle-loaded P25 TiO2 (Au/P25) plasmonic photocatalysts, evaluated by the oxidative decomposition of formic acid in water under visible light irradiation, was enhanced up to 3 times by simply mixing Au/P25 with photocatalytically inactive h-BN nanosheets as a result of electron transfer from photoexcited Au/TiO2 to the h-BN nanosheets and retardation of the charge reco...
Sulfur copolymer nanowires have been reported for the first time as highly stable visible-light-active photocatalysts for photoelectrochemical water splitting depending on their size and sulfur content. The as-prepared sulfur copolymer nanowires can serve as a sulfur source and templates to create metal sulfide/copolymer heterocatalysts.
Nitrogen and carbon codopants-stabilized hierarchical porous ZnS microspheres undergo an unexpected dynamic transformation into hollow microspheres when nitrogen and carbon are removed from the former. Thus, such a transformation is evidence for the unprecedented stability of non-metal doped visible light-responsive photocatalysts.
Eosin Y, a long known dye molecule, has recently been widely applied as a photoredox catalyst in organic synthesis. Low cost and good availability make eosin Y an attractive alternative to typical inorganic transition metal photocatalysts. We summarize the key photophysical properties of the dye and the recent synthetic applications in photoredox catalysis.
