Two substrates (A) and (B) are oxidized separately by an oxidant (Oxi) with the rate constants k1 and k2 and they are oxidized taken together (A + B) under similar conditions with a rate constant k3, if the value of k3 = (k1 + k2), then it is said to be an example of two reactions “going parallel”. If the value of k3 >>>> (k1 + k2), then the redox process is termed as “co-oxidation” (Hasan and ...

Core/shell nanostructured carbon materials with carbon nanofiber (CNF) as the core and a nitrogen (N)-doped graphitic layer as the shell were synthesized by pyrolysis of CNF/polyaniline (CNF/PANI) composites prepared by in situ polymerization of aniline on CNFs. High-resolution transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared and Raman analyses indicat...

Formation of vanadia species during the calcination of ball milled mixture of V2O5 with TiO2 was studied by Raman spectroscopy in situ and at ambient conditions. It is found that calcination in air leads to fast (1–3 h) spreading of vanadia over TiO2 followed by a slower process leading to the formation of a monolayer vanadia. The calcinated catalyst showed higher activity during toluene oxidat...

The selective catalytic oxidation (SCO) of gas phase ammonia (NH3) to nitrogen and water has been proposed as an effective ammonia removal process. This study reports that the oxidation of NH3 with oxygen to form N2 was investigated by SCO using a Pt-Rh complex catalyst that was synthesized by the incipient wetness impregnation process. The catalysts were performed using fluorescent spectroscop...

Dry reforming is a process allowing simultaneous conversion of hydrocarbons (methane being the prototype molecule used for this study) to syngas using carbon dioxide as an oxidizing agent. Such strategy may eventually become an opportunity for the industrial sector to produce syngas whilst valorizing residual CO2. As reported previously, an iron-based catalyst, i.e. steel wool, activated by an ...

An egg-shell Pd/Al2O3 catalyst showed higher activity than a regular Pd/Al2O3 catalyst in the partial oxidation of methane to syngas, but a common problem of this reaction is the catalyst deactivation on stream. We attempted to modify the egg-shell catalyst via impregnation with some metal oxide additives. Although the addition of MgO did not show any beneficial effect, the addition of CaO and/...

We report the combinatorial and high-throughput optimization of improved ternary Pt alloy electrocatalysts for the oxidation of methanol for use in direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC) anodes. Following up on the discovery of a ternary Pt20Co60Ru20 catalyst with significantly improved electrocatalytic activity for methanol oxidation over standard Pt-Ru catalysts, we optimize the electrocatalytic ac...

Electrochemical oxidation of some dyes making wastewater assisted by transition metal (Co, Cu) modified kaolin in an electrolytic cell with graphite plates as electrodes was investigated. H2O2, produced on the surface of porous graphite cathode reacts with the (Co, Cu) modified kaolin catalyst to form strong oxidant (hydroxyl radicals HO*) that can in turn degrade the pollutants adsorbed on the...

The emphasis of modern chemistry is to satisfy the needs of consumers by using methods that are sustainable and economical. Using a 1% AuPd/MgIJOH)2 catalyst in the presence of NaOH and under specific reaction conditions furfural; a platform chemical formed from lignocellulosic biomass, can be selectively oxidised to furoic acid, and the catalyst displays promising reusability for this reaction...

A novel SBA-15 supported catalyst PdL(n)@SBA-15 containing a 2-pyridyl-1,2,3-triazole ligand framework was prepared via a "click" route, in which the click-triazole acted as both a stable linker and a good chelator. The catalyst was characterized and applied for the aerobic oxidation of alcohols, and the product was obtained in up to 98% yield.
