INTRODUCTION The pursuit of bone fixation systems capable of affording appropriate stability for osteosynthesis has gone through several stages from the use of metal wires, plates, and screws to the current stage of bioabsorbable systems. In our Pediatric Neurosurgery Service and Craniofacial Surgery Unit we began employing these systems in June 1997. The object of this paper is to present a re...

STUDY DESIGN A prospective cohort study. OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to evaluate the interest of denosumab in the treatment of spinal giant-cells tumors (GCTs) and aneurysmal bone cysts (ABCs). SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA To treat GCTs and ABCs, surgical resection remains the best treatment to limit local recurrence (LR) but constitutes an aggressive treatment with potential morbidit...

We report a case of bilateral fracturing of the femoral neck in a patient with renal osteodystrophy who was treated by means of osteosynthesis. In this type of patient, there is a need to remain watchful for the possibility of occurrences of spontaneous fracturing of the femoral neck, even if the initial radiographic examination is normal.

Os acromiale occur frequently in the population and can be a cause of significant shoulder dysfunction and rotator cuff impingement. When symptomatic os acromiale fail conservative management, surgical intervention may become necessary. The purpose of this article is to describe our preferred surgical technique for osteosynthesis of os acromiale using cannulated screws and tension-band wiring.

A linked total elbow prosthesis was used in an elderly patient to salvage elbow function following failed attempts at osteosynthesis for a comminuted fracture of the proximal ulna associated with a radial head dislocation. A good functional result was obtained at 46 months follow-up, despite questionable healing of the ulnar fracture.

There are 2 types of distraction devices for mandibular distraction: buried and external. The advantage of buried devices is the stability, but the difficulty in removing the screws is the greatest disadvantage. To resolve this problem, an osteosynthesis screw (Fariña Screw) has been designed, which greatly facilitates its removal when buried distractors are used.

The authors report a rare per-operative complication of intra-pelvic migration of dynamic hip screw, during osteosynthesis of an inter-trochanteric fracture. Possible reasons of migration are analyzed along with the importance of careful execution of the surgical technique to avoid such iatrogenic complications and medico-legal implications.

BACKGROUND Plate osteosynthesis is the most commonly used technique for the treatment of diaphyseal forearm fractures in adults. However, application of a plate can disrupt the periosteal blood supply and necessitates skin incisions that may be unsightly, and there is a risk of refracture if the implant is removed. The purpose of this study was to assess the early results of the use of a contou...

Background: Diaphyseal forearm fracture is one of the most commonly encountered fractures upper extremity. The literatures comparing outcome plate fixation and intramedullary nailing in adults are scarce therefore consensus on superiority over other lacking. This study was undertaken to compare these operative techniques with diaphyseal both bone forearm. Aims Objectives: Materials Methods: Pat...

Introduction: Simple fractures, potentially high-strain are classically treated through anatomical reconstruction and rigid fixation, using an open reduction approach. This study aimed to evaluate the bridge plating minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis (MIPO) of simple tibial fractures. Our hypothesis was that fixation these fractures MIPO would result in early bone healing with low complica...
