Reporter gene analysis of two regions of the human factor VII (FVII) gene promoter (residues -658 to -1 and -348 to -1, where +1 is the start site of translation) in the mammalian liver-derived cell line HepG2 showed reduced transcriptional activity in the presence of oestrogenic factors. This effect was independent of promoter polymorphic haplotype. Similar analysis using a smaller region of t...

X-ray diffraction (XRD) can provide useful information about the composition of an ore sample in terms of quantification of crystalline phases and also amorphous content. XRD is also a powerful technique for studying substitutional solid solutions that can affect mining productivity, such as determining lattice bound aluminum in Goethite. Knowledge of the phases present can predict processing r...

Polynomial maps attached to polynomials of an Ore extension are naturally defined. In this setting we show the importance of pseudo-linear transformations and give some applications. In particular, factorizations of polynomials in an Ore extension over a finite field Fq[t; θ], where θ is the Frobenius automorphism, are translated into factorizations in the usual polynomial ring Fq[x].

One of Dennett’s principal arguments for on instrumentolistic construal of intentionol ottributions (e.g., ottributions of belief, etc.) is that such attributions ore environment relative. I argue that one can and should odopt a realist perspective toword such ottributions, but accommodate their environmental relativity by treoting intentional properties as relational properties. By doing so on...

The metal sulfi des exhibit a great diversity of electrical and magnetic properties with both scientifi c interest and practical applications. These properties apply major constraints on models of the electronic structure (or chemical bonding) in sulfi des (Vaughan and Rosso 2006, this volume). The pure and doped synthetic equivalents of certain sulfi de minerals have actual or potential applic...

A linear (partial) functional system consists of linear partial differential, difference equations or any mixture thereof. We present an algorithm that determines whether linear functional systems are ∂-finite, and transforms ∂-finite systems to fully integrable ones. The algorithm avoids using Gröbner bases in Laurent–Ore modules when ∂-finite systems correspond to finitedimensional Ore module...

In [2], Bondy and Fan proved the existence of heavy cycle with Dirac-type weighted degree condition. And in [1], a similar result with Ore-type weighted degree condition is proved, however the conclusion is weaker than the one in [2]. Here we unify these two results, using a weighted degree condition weaker than Ore-type one.

The processes responsible for the transformation of banded iron formations to hard high-grade hematite ore, and their timing, remain poorly understood despite many recent advances. The paleomagnetic method allows for the estimation of ore genesis timing as a complement to other techniques. The effectiveness of the paleomagnetic method at dating, and testing proposed models for, the genesis of h...

Introduction The history of haematite iron ore mining in the Cumberland and Furness districts has been excellently described by Kendall (1893), and from a summary of this and works by Smith (1924), the following brief facts have been taken. The date of the first working of haematite in Cumberland and Furness is uncertain, but the exposed veins in the Lake District must have been known long befo...
